How can $VARIABLES be used inside smbclient -c'xyz' command strings?
Hi, being a total newbie in shellscripting and similar stuff, I am suffering from a brain freeze around the following problem: * I need to print (or transfer otherwise) to a WinNT box; * the files are send from inside a shellscript; * the script gets the filename on the commandline when started; * so the only knows it works on "$1"; * the problem is, that the original filename needs to

Printer Driver Download Problem - PPD's Not DL'ing
Hey All, just a quick question about printer upload/download stuff that's been confusing the hell out of me for a couple days... This might be a Samba, or a CUPS problem, so i've posted this on both newsgroups, but if anyone's had a similar problem I'd really appreciate any help! I'm running Samba 2.2.7 and CUPS 1.1.17 on a RedHat 7.3 System.. I'm trying to get the

CUPS vs lprng
Could I get some opinions on which type of Samba based printing is easier, CUPS or LPRNG, or just bybass Samba altogether. I'm looking at the Printing HOWTO by Kurt Pfeifle (Printing Support in Samba 3.0) and both look really complex. Anyone out there have any experience with printing services in Samba? Should I just stay away from samba printing and go direct to Network printers? What are the advantages of a samba print server as opposed to installing printer...

Samba 2.2.5 Printing problem with HP Designjets
...ally large papersizes. I have some HP Designjet in our Network, we need for our mechanical engineers, as well as for Poster production. The problem now is that the drivers does not offer papersizes larger than DIN A2 format. I'm really in need of the papersize DIN A0 and DIN A1. Thanks to Kurt Pfeifle I nailed this problem down to the available Forms. If I do a right click on the Printers Folder -> Server Properties on the local system, I see Forms larger than A2 (its a Windows 2000 system), but if I look onto "server properties" on the samba server in network neighborhood I only...

Printing with CUPS and PDF
Trying to get one Samba server to serve several printers through CUPS and host a virtual PDF "printer" at the same time. I've gotten them working separately, but not together, and I think I know why. In the smb.conf man page under "print command": "With printing = cups, and if SAMBA is compiled against libcups, any manually set print command will be ignored."

Problem with print$
Ok...I'm stuck. Environment: Suse 8.0, with Samba 2.2.3a, no domain controller (workgroup only). Client machine is NT4 Workstation, SP5. Access to disk shares is fine, no problems, using encrypted PWs. I'm trying to set up a [print$] share, as described in chapter 6 of the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. The symptom that I get is that when I attempt to load the driver to the print$ share, I

PDF printing problem - can't find Samba's spool file?
I'm still struggling with this, and people keep asking me why the PDF printer still isn't working...does anyone have any suggestions? -----Original Message----- From: David Brodbeck Sent: Monday, December 09, 2002 4:09 PM To: 'samba@samba.org' Subject: PDF printing problem - can't find Samba's file? Difficulty with Samba 2.2.8 and native CUPS PS drivers
I've recently attempted to convert from the Adobe PostScript drivers for my Canon BJC=2110 printer over to the native CUPS Windows PS drivers and can't quite get things to work correctly. After deleting the printer on my WinXP SP1 clients, verifying under "Server Properties" that the Adobe driver was removed, then reconnecting to my Samba printer, I connect fine but receive

cupsaddsmb - why the heck can't I get rpcclient-addprinter to work?
I can't seem to get the rpcclient-addprinter to work - grrrrrr It looks like the drivers files are copied correctly and the NT drivers are added correctly but the addprinter command says it's unsuccessful! rpcclient localhost -N -U JOHNSON\\root -c 'enumprinters' shows the printer!! What's going on? I've tried removing /var/cache/samba/ntdrivers.tdb
