PF_RING crashed the CentOS5 - BUG: soft lockup - CPU#7
Hi all,
The PF_RING seems not to work smoothly in CentOS 5.
Several day before, I patched the kernel 2.6.25.3 and
installed the PF_RING-patched kernel in my CentOS5.
Based on the PF_RING, I developed my program to capture
the network packages. I wished it can work until the
machine power is off. Unforturnately, no mat...

Centos as a network recorder and request
...am
using a minimal install. Once I found the ethereal performance wiki I
realized the problem was not in the system but in the manner in which
packets are moved from the kernel to userland.
http://wiki.ethereal.com/Performance
The only solution I can find to address this is a kernel patch called
pf_ring
http://www.ntop.org/PF_RING.html
I would prefer to not recompile the kernel and instead stay with the
supportable baseline provided by centos. But, in order to reduce dropped
packets, having pf_ring compiled into the kernel appears to be my only
solution unless someone here knows another way they...

BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 61s!
...1s! [http_cap:12228]

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I choose CentOS because I believe it is the most stable OS in
commodity machines.
But I don't know how to do when facing the trouble.
The difference lies in that I patched a PF_RING patch in original
kernel and recompiled
the kernel to run my machines. I wonder whether the patched kernel
crashes the CentOS
because PF_RING automatically downloads the kernel codes from
www.kernel.org, but not
the one from www.centos.org? Or, the centOS holds the bugs in its distribution?
Hope s...

[Question]About KVM network zero-copy feature!
Hi,All
I searched from git-log, and found that until now we have vhost TX zero-copy experiment feature, how
about RX zero-copy?
For XEN, net-back also only has TX zero-copy, Is there any reason that RX zero-copy still not implemented?
Thanks!

Kernel panic on 6.8 release with kernel-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64
Hi all,
Just tested the new CentOS 6.8 release on a few VMs and a physical box and
got a kernel panic.
Is it just me, or anybody else as well?
Just fishing for now, will look into the issue more thoroughly later today.

Kernel panic on 6.8 release with kernel-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64
...one case?
That kernel has been out there since May 16, 2016 (in CentOS CR, 10 days):
https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-cr-announce/2016-May/002855.html
There are a couple issues with that kernel on an internet search:
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/2314491
https://github.com/ntop/PF_RING/issues/96
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15411
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1333697
But I don't see any other issues in either the Red Hat or CentOS bugs
databases and none of those are oops.
