Hi, This is such a trivial programming issue, but I can''t find a way to transform, say ''abc'' to ''a-b-c'' without using pattern matching. Any ideas? model simulation
Dear useRs, Is there a package or a function able to simulate models with sets of differential equations? Where we could input our model and give R some value to start with and it would generate the graphs? Regards, Rafael. ____________________________________________________________________________________ [[elided Yahoo spam]] [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Windows binary packages & R-Forge
Hi room, There seems to be a problem with the Windows building machines of R-Forge. All our packages with Fortran source code cannot be compiled for Windows. The error in the log file is make[3]: gfortran: Command not found It seems that gfortran is not installed. Is there any plan to fix this or am I doing something wrong on R-Forge? thanks in advance for your advises. regards, Yohan --

The Wrong Choice: Locked in by license restrictions
A colleague pointed me to this article advocating R as a Matlab substitute. Here is the link (deliberately on two lines: http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/ originalContent/0,289142,sid39_gci902076,00.html I'm not a Matlab user, but I understand that it provides a nice front end to the Linpack collection of numerical linear algebra routines. My friend and I wonder if R can really

distance in the function kmeans
Hi, I want to know which distance is using in the function kmeans and if we can change this distance. Indeed, in the function pam, we can put a distance matrix in parameter (by the line "pam<-pam(dist(matrixdata),k=7)" ) but we can't do it in the function kmeans, we have to put the matrix of data directly ... Thanks in advance, Nicolas BOUGET

If you are using the Express versions of Visual Studio, the Platform SDK(windows.h) is a seperate install that you have to download.
