extracting columns from a ts series
Hi All, I have a time series called 'upwelling', like this: >upwell Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov 1984 494.7 303.7 220.8 288.4 188.1 125.5 215.7 1985 56.0 127.4 165.8 189.4 261.6 223.7 186.3 150.2 107.8 120.3 91.1 from 1984 until 2000. How do I could extract, i.e, Jan or Dec columns from the data? Or how do I

Save a group of matrix
Hello, I'm creating a loop to work with vegan, to get a species abundance curve. Here I send the script I've created and also an excel file to prove what it can do. Well, I have a database with 20 years, and each year we have sampled 19 stratum, and in each estratum we have carry out some sumpling. Then, with the script that I've sent I've got to calculate the species abundance

about s.window in stl
Hi, Is there anybody who could explain a little bit the use of s.window and t.window in STL. If I decompose a series using the default values, I get a very irregular trends, but if I play with the options, I get less rare trends. If anybody can explain me the concepts behind these options I will appreciate a lot. I'm not a mathematician ;-) Thanks in advance Cheers, Antonio Antonio

Hello, This is my first post to this list. Well, I tried to install Google Earth using WineTools but I got the "Unknown Graphics Card" error. I can open the program but Earth doesn't appear. I'm running Debian Sarge on a ASUS CUW(E)-FX motherboard (Intel 810 Chipset) and Gnome 2.10.2 inteface. Thanks for any help. Best regards, Antonio -- Ant?nio Olinto Biologist /

indicating group numbers in a dendrogram
Hi, Is it possible to place the group number in a cluster? The best example I found was at https://www.crops.org/images/publications/cs/42/5/1584f4.jpeg (see I, II, IIIa, IIIb) It would help to identify the group given by cutree since branches can turn around and they necessarily are not plotted in order (group 2 is not necessarily the second from the left). Thanks for any help. All the

On p-values presented in the summary of Linear Models
Dear list members I have a doubt on how p-values for t-statistics are calculated in the summary of Linear Models. Here goes an example: x <- rnorm(100,50,10) y <- rnorm(100,0,5) fit1<-lm(y~x) summary(fit1) summary(fit1)$coef[2] # b summary(fit1)$coef[4] # Std. Error summary(fit1)$coef[6] # t-statistic summary(fit1)$coef[8] # Pr(>|t| summary(fit1)$df [2] # degrees of freedom #

nls works but not gnls
This works fine: fit42<-nls(Vfs~SSlogis(Months,Asym.Int+Asym.Group*Groupdum,xmid,scal), data=df, start=c(Asym.Int=22,Asym.Group=5,xmid=2,scal=6), na.action=na.omit) But this, identical except using gnls, doesn't converge: fit43<-gnls(Vfs~SSlogis(Months,Asym.Int+Asym.Group*Groupdum,xmid,scal), data=df, start=c(Asym.Int=22,Asym.Group=5,xmid=2,scal=6), na.action=na.omit) Error in gnls(Vfs

Matrix resampling (bootstraps)
Dear all, I am trying to generate bootstrap replicate matrixes (rows=samples, column=species, sampling with replacement) from a matrix dataset, but I do not know how to do it in R. I have tried boot() and bootstrap(), but they require an statistic, which in my case is cluster analysis (generating bootstrap values for a cluster analysis is a topic that has been mentioned previously in

kruskal.test followed by kruskalmc
Hi all, After running kruskal.test I have got results (p<0,005) pointing to reject the hypothesis that the samples were draw from the same population. Howerver when I run the kruskalmc there are no significant differences in any of the multiple comparisons. Is that possible? Some clarification? Thanks, Humber <https://sites.google.com/site/humberandrade> [[alternative HTML version
