Can't load e1071
After upgrading to 1.7.0 under debian linux, I can't get e1071 working properly. The first problem I had was that g++-3.0 was the standard compiler but wasn't installed, so I installed it. e1071 then installed correctly, but I get the following: aperrin at perrin:~/afshome/papers/authoritarian/R$ R R : Copyright 2003, The R Development Core Team Version 1.7.0 (2003-04-16) R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. The TL;DR is unless you're running CentOS 7 on a laptop or as a virtual guest, you should probably run 'tuned-adm profile throughput-performance' I wrote up the full details here -> http://jperrin.org/centos/boosting-centos-server-performance/ -- Jim Perrin The CentOS Project | http://www.centos.org twitter: @BitIntegrity | GPG Key: FA09AD77

Dual Core vs Quad Core
Dear R-users, I use R to run spatial stuff and it takes up a lot of ram. Runs can take hours or days. I am thinking of getting a new desktop. Can R take advantage of the dual-core system? I have a dual-core computer at work. But it seems that right now R is using only one processor. The new computers feature quad core with 3GB of RAM. Can R take advantage of the 4 chips? Or am I better off

I imagine something like Cisco AnyConnect on Windows, where you can connect before login to the machine. So afterwards user specific network shares are available and can be connect via scripts. slog tests on read throughput exhaustion (NFS)
I have historically noticed that in ZFS, when ever there is a heavy writer to a pool via NFS, the reads can held back (basically paused). An example is a RAID10 pool of 6 disks, whereby a directory of files including some large 100+MB in size being written can cause other clients over NFS to pause for seconds (5-30 or so). This on B70 bits. I''ve gotten used to this behavior over NFS, but
