PLM package PGGLS strange behavior
When using the PLM package (version 1.2-8), I encounter the probem that calling the FGLS estimator evokes strange behavior, when choosing the "random" effects model. After calling the PGGLS function to estimate FGLS, PLM gives me a warning, stating that the "random" model has been replaced with the "pooling" model. I would, however, really like to estimate the random

rename network card device /dev/p3p2 to /dev/eth0
...ates a device called p3p2. For the wifi card centos generates a device called wlan0. In this configuration the flexlm license program called lmgrd only got the mac address of wlan0. The vendor daemon got no mac address as host ID. Yesterday I made one test. Therefore I edited /etc/udev/rules.d/70-peristant-net.rules. This file contains only one line. This line defines how to name the device for the wifi card. I changed the name Option from name="wlan0" to name="eth0". After rebooting centos generates a device called /dev/et0. Both lmgrd and vendor daemon found the host ID. But lmg...

Interesting ActiveRecord vs Hibernate article
For those haven''t seen it yet, Patrick Peak has an interesting article at the Server Side (www.theserverside.com) discussing the differences between the Hibernate (www.hibernate.org) peristence framework and ActiveRecord.  The article can be found here: http://www.theserverside.com/articles/article.tss?l=RailsHibernate .  Patrick Peak is the author of _Hibernate Quickly_ (Manning), which

Re: DUNDi .... Halfway and CLUSTERING
Do you mean the peristence of connecting a specific phone to a specific server? If so, then it's relatively easy. The ldirectord has a persistence setting that does that. If I'm misunderstanding you, then could you explain further what you mean? Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients

Windows ACLs map quite well into RichACLs. Unfortunately Christolph Hellwig has peristently blocked any merge of the RichACLs code into the Linux kernel. Problem with RW_MOUNT in a diskless system
Hello everyone, I have a problem with setting up a diskless system on CentOS. Currently I have successfully set up a small cluster of diskless clients following the following available HowTos: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/DisklessClients https://coda.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/CentOS6_Linux_Diskless_Setup The client system is CentOS 5.10 and the system is read-only. It has been working fine for a

Re: DUNDi .... Halfway and CLUSTERING
I understand what you're saying now. While I have absolutely no proof of this, I have to believe that it's something they've solved. I've got several production systems (since early December of last year) using the type of cluster that I'm talking about, and I've yet to hear of any issues that could be related to this. I also did extensive testing both in the lab and at

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Thanks for the first reply, Jeremy. What about the (future) implementation of RichACL? Will there be any native Linux Client support along with the SMB2/SMB3 protocol? I know, there is a native implemenation for RichACLs in ext4 FS. Unfortunately, smbcals is not a native Linux ACL Tool and has a very unhandy syntax. I just tested some days ago. ;-) I am looking for a solution that allows the

Gauss-Laguerre using statmod
I believe this may be more related to analysis than it is to R, per se. Suppose I have the following function that I wish to integrate: ff <- function(x) pnorm((x - m)/sigma) * dnorm(x, observed, sigma) Then, given the parameters: mu <- 300 sigma <- 50 m <- 250 target <- 200 sigma_i <- 50 I can use the function integrate as: > integrate(ff, lower= -Inf, upper=target)

LDA vs. LMTP
Hi there, I'm using Dovecot together with Postfix; as I understand it, there are two ways to transfer the mail from Postfix to Dovecot. 1.) by using LDA with mailbox_command = /usr/libexec/dovecot/dovecot-lda -f "$SENDER" -a "$RECIPIENT" 2.) by using LMTP with mailbox_transport = lmtp:unix:private/dovecot-lmtp (currently using number 1) I'm interessted in the

R as a daemon?
I have a GNU/Linux / Unix application in which I'd like to have an R process running in a persistant state, while receiving instructions (and data) from another process, and returning results to this process. My initial thoughts are to set something up with named pipes or such, but I believe that the R process will terminate when it reads EOF (^D) from the input pipe. The client process is
