[LLVMdev] Version Control Upgrade?

Apart from using CVS as a client (as everyone does), I've only ever used
Aegis (previous employer, for ~3 years) and Perforce (the employer
before that, though ever since then I've been using the 'free' license
for personal stuff.) I've tinkered a bit with some of the shiny new V-C
systems.
Well, to put things bluntly, Aegis was a complete and total disaster,
while Perforce is the best version control...

[LLVMdev] Version Control Upgrade?
I have used Perforce also and fully agree it's wonderful. The only
concern I have is with their license for open source projects. The only
gotcha is that it must be renewed annually, and they reserve the right
to not renew it (though they say they won't unreasonably deny
renewals). Not sure how much this...

[LLVMdev] Version Control Upgrade?
LLVMers,
The oversight group has been kicking around the idea of getting a better
version control system than CVS. The problem is, we're not quite sure
what "better" means. So, we thought we'd ask your opinions.
If you're interested in this topic (and you should be if you're actively
developing), please have a look at this site:

OT - Automated rpm builds
Hi
Currently devs check code into perforce and we have to checkout >
package > update repo > deploy
I know this could be scripted but are there any tools out there that can
take code from a repository and build rpm's in a continuous integration
type manner? I have been hunting around for such a tool and so far not
seeing a...

[LLVMdev] hybrid source control
...n the world to change for others, I wonder if we
shouldn't consider adopting a hybrid approach to source control, a la
FreeBSD.
There:
- highly active developers bitten by CVS,
- people working on particular, 'experimental' projects
and - those who "just want to"
...use Perforce. For LLVM today, this might map to something like:
- Reid ;) (though I'm sure he's not alone..)
- a bunch of people using LLVM in interesting ways but not 'core' LLVM
hackers, who nevertheless might like to see their stuff in the tree
- (for example here:) Windows guys. (It...

And they almost always leave out big chunks of functionality that are
important for several use cases. Basically, they figure out the
commands needed for a small set of workflows, ensure the best case
works, then stop there.
Coming from a perforce and SVN background, I think this is
understandable. With perforce and SVN, you just don't have as many
options and possible workflows, so they tend to be a little easier to
learn, and a lot easier to wrap in a UI on the client side.

Migration from RH9
...s running
Fedora core 4.
Reason for migrating to CentOS: no more security updates available,
hardware change planned anyway.
Here are the services to be migrated:
sendmail

DNS
apache+PHP website
FTP
Dansguardian
Samba
Perforce
Squid
I haven't seen any directories like LDAP or windows Active Directory, so
I assume for now that all authentication is done locally.
Anyone has experience with that? I'm not too scared about sendmail,
Bind, apache/PHP (except that maybe the PHP upgrade may break the
website, but t...

GE lanpor ups monitored with SNMP stop to monitor after upgrade
Hello All !
Recently I have upgraded NUT to 2.4.1, and now I can't monitor old IMV
LanPro S3 UPS with old SNMP board.
Previously it is monitored OK, but now snmp-ups refuses to start:

SEmodule dependency hell.
...t no httpd service is, or will ever be, installed on
that host.
However, it seems a rather dangerous hole in the logical design of
SELinux that one cannot explicitly remove and reassign contexts to
ports. In order to accomplish this on a system running httpd but
attached to non-standard ports one perforce is required to cross link
permissions between all of the affected processes. Which I cannot
conceive as a security enhancement.

[LLVMdev] Downstream distributions as first class citizens in the LLVM repository
...t of LLVM into the vendor branch in the FreeBSD tree and then merge it. It's quite easy for us to see any locally-applied diffs. Copying there from some LLVM-hosted svn branch wouldn't be any easier than copying there from trunk.
David
[1] We actually have a few forks of LLVM in various Perforce branches and git repositories with experimental features too, although most of those are intended to be merged upstream eventually.

With a distributed system, I could perform all of the standard operations
(commits, diffs, etc) remotely, then apply all of teh change sets to the
main repo when I get net access.
