New Users wont authenticate.
Im using Samba 2.2.7a on my RH7.3 box. The 3 users I have had on the system work flawlessly, but when I add a new user (userconf, adduser, smbpasswd -a) the system takes the user, it exists in both PSSWD files, but won't allow logging on from the Win9x box. I look in /var/log/messages and it doesn't tell me anything, nor do my etc/samba/log.smbd-nmbd files, is there a particular switch

Samba PDC/Windows BDC
I have a RH 7.2 PDC which uses DHCP for 2 machines on the network. My Win9x machine as a client/BDC just in case and uses a static IP. If the PDC goes down. I have to put in or take out the PDC's gateway IP and was wondering if there was a way to get ONLY the info I need from DHCP to the Win machine. To attempt to clarify, when the PDC is up, it will assign its gateway IP to the BDC (since it

Missing File
Sometimes an install errors out looking for a file called libc.so.6. I did a locate and the file IS there, it just doesn't see it. I don't want to have to download a 16 meg RPM just for one small file. Does anyone know where JUST this file (most likely updated) can be found by itself? Kev

Samba 2.2.8a Install
I just downloaded and installed the above tar ball, all went fine, all runs, hits no errors (./configure, make, make install bin, make install_man). When it finished, it typed, service smb stop, service smb restart, then smbclient -L firewall, which still reported 2.2.7a. So I tried it another way, /etc/rc.d/init.d/smbd stop/start...Smbclient -L firewall yielded the same version number, ditto

2.2.8a and printers
I recent upgraded to 2.2.8, which went fine. When I checked smbclient -L firewall, I saw I Lost my printer share. I am using CUPS v1.1.3 for printing. When I went back to 2.2.7a it reappeared. 2 questions: 1> Why did it do this? I ./configured it --enable-cups- --with-pam_(smb) 2> Is there and advantage of upgrading such a small step? Or are there a big enough issues to warrant this

Application Blocking
On my windows machine I use a software fire will called ZoneAlarm. One feature I like Is the ability to block applications from using the net. I''ve looked with Shorewall and wonder if it does, or was ever meant to. Not a complaint, a curiosity. Kev -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Ghosting Linux Partitions.
I was thinking of putting a slightly bigger HD on my Linux server and would like to know the easiest way. I know that ghost works well on FAT32 partitions, but does it work on Ext3 partitions too? Id rather not reinstall if I don't have to, so any and all suggestions are appreciated. TIA Kev

Stopping Net Access without proper login.
I as wondering how I can stop a user from accessing the net if they just Cancel out of the logon. I know I can use the poledit, but I prefer to do it from samba. Id Imagine it has something to do with mapping to a guest user who has no access. Can someone clarify this for me? Ty Kev

Subject: I see my samba server but.............
Well first problem I see is you editied your sbm.conf...Should be smb.conf ;-) Can you access it as root? Id start by making sure the permissions are correct. And that the Sharename in smb.conf matches the folder name on the server and that the path is correct. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 14:10:54 -0600 From:

Samba and Actionlaser 1500
Has anyone gotten this printer to work with Redhat/Samba? My system is RH 7.2 , Kernel 2.4.20, samba 1.2.7a. Sometimes, VIA CUPS, it will print a test sheet, but I cant seem to get it to work locally with a raw queue. I've tried Foomatic but it just messed up my printer database so I reinstalled printconf, Linuxprinter.org says it is partially compatible with the omni driver, which I have

FW: Smbclient and Winpopup
Listers, Is the a way to tell SMBCLIENT to broadcast to the entire workgroup instead of having to send to all the individual clients? I've tried smbclient -M workgroup and it failed to resolve anything (which was expected). What Im ultimately wanting to do is set up the proper line in the PPP script to alert the users when the line status changes. Can this be done without to much trouble?

My Experiences
Hello all. About two years ago I told a friend I was wanted to build a server for my SOHO, he handed me this cd with Redhat 6.2, which he spoke of highly. So I installed it, which was akin to learning a new language by listening to two people talk. The command line was no foreign to me since I had years of experience with SODS, but with the exception for the dir command, Linux was a whole new
