Beginner needs help !
Hello everybody.
I am not new to linux but new to wine.
I run Fedora Core 4.
I tried various rpms for wine (from fedora extras, from
newrpms.sunsite.dk, and from winehq), with always the same conclusion :
I am unable to run anything, even winecfg.
[wec@wec-vero ~]$ winecfg
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/wec/.wine'...
No error message, but no window opens :-((
I can get

Plotting a graph of many lines between groups of points...
I have a data file read into a data frame.
For example,
V1 V2 V3 V4
1 1 1 3 4
2 2 3 5 10
. . . . .
. . . . .
n V1[n] V2[n] V3[n] V4[n]
to n=many thousand
I want to plot a graph with many line segments, where v1[i]=x1, v2[i]=y1,
v3[i]=x2, v4[i]=y2 for i=1,n.
This seems relatively simple in theory but I've spent quite a bit of time
trying to make it happen with

links named after their own text
I remember there was a way to unclog links named after their own name,
like [link][], and have links written just [link] parsed as long as
there was a [link]: definition somewhere, but I don't seem to find where
this tweak was described.
Is it still valid?

Markdown-Discuss Digest, Vol 48, Issue 13
It was a very useful feature for e-mail parsing and I miss it.
I use PHP Markdown extra to send multipart alternative e-mail, and the
short syntax [link] instead of [link][] is very clean and lean. Do you
plan to implement it anymore?
Or is there a tweak to get the present PHP Markdown Extra to parse
[links] as [links][]?
BTW I did not find mention of this in

cant save to smb from apps?
I set up a samba share on a fedora core 5 box.
I am able to drag and drop files to it, but when I try to save from an
app, I get a message saying disk is full. These are all XP home clients.
When I tried to share from an XP pro client it worked.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
thanks, Josh.

password strength
I have Samba PDC with an LDAP backend. I just realized that the users
can reset their passwords to anything, a single character a space. Is
there anyway to prevent this?

AutoCad and ArcView
Hello all,
Just curious if anyone else has a SAMBA server that is serving up
AutoCad and ArcView files to users on Windows.
We are utilizing a RAID 5 setup on dual 2.8 GHZ
4 GB RAM
Intel Controller card (all latest firmware, BIOS etc...etc..)
Only 4 users are accessing the server, but it seems after a few days the
server starts to choke up, lock files, and it causes a hardware issue.

installing sn package
Hi r-users,
I want to use the sn package but I got the following message:
> install.packages(repos=NULL,pkgs="c:\\Tinn-R\\sn_0.4-12.zip")
Warning: package 'sn' is in use and will not be installed
updating HTML package descriptions
I did tried to do it a few times but it gives the same message.

True, this is no prose, and true too there is no code yet, but I
appreciate the effort,
as someone who tries to get a herd of writers with some tabular data to
include the data
in the text.
The alternative being, in fact, as heavy as implementing a database
repository for the
tables and including ugly imports in the markdown text.
For now, I am using Michel Frotin's PHP Markdown Extra, which
