HW experience
Hi,
we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST
planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and
for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller
(Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ?
thanxs,
Martin

Server Recomendation
I am looking to install a system with 200 phones (polycom). There
will be about 30-40 simultaneous calls. I am looking at the Dell 1950
with Quad 2.66, 2Gig RAM, Two 160 Gig SATA Drives (Mirrored with a
Perc5 card), Dual Gig NIC, and RHEL 4.0. I will use two "gateways"
for my PRI's and FXS Cards so PCI won't be used. I will probably use
a small 14" 2U server to handle the ZAP Cards.
Does anyone for see a problem with using the 1950? Good/Bad thoughts???
Thanks!

You can see that this is a simulator since the title of the main window
has the following:
C:\Program Files\McAfee\*PERC5 **sim*\CtrlHostWin.exe - emphasis on
"*PERC5 sim*"

write-back cache question
I have a perc5i (and perc5e) raid controller in my poweredge 2970
running centos 5.5. The RAID controller config is set for write-back
policy, which I can confirm by checking in OpenManage. I also called
Dell and ran their reporting application and had them double check to
make sure everything looks OK hardwa...

Many Tx dropped packets
...,
I have 3 xen box with 2-3 VM on each.
Each server has 2 nic (1 for external and 1 for internal network).
All VMs are webserver and they mount a nfs filesystem.
I''ve noticed that on each dom0 there are many dropped packets.
Server config is:
1- DELL (2xQuad Xeon E5320 @1.86Ghz - 8Gb Ram - Perc5 - Kernel 2.6.18-6
(debian etch))
2- DELL (2xDual Xeon 5110 @1.60Ghz - 4Gb Ram - Perc5 - Kernel 2.6.18-6
(debian etch))
3 - 2xOpteron 242 @ 1,60Ghz - 2Gb Ram - 3ware raid controller - kernel
2.6.18-6 (debian etch))
This is my ifconfig output for the first server (the other 2 are almost

Dell Perc 6 disk geometry problem with RAID5 (both 6.3 final and 7.0 RC1)
Hi,
We bought a new Dell PowerEdge 2950III with Perc 6/i and have the disk
geometry problem using 6.3 final or 7.0 RC1. Seems that we are not alone at
least one guy has similar problem reported earlier:

I was reading the mailing list and found that some of the people are happily

7.0-Release and 3ware 9550SXU w/BBU - horrible write performance
Hi,
I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the
Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both
4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance
for writes is just plain horrible. Something is
obviously wrong but I'm not sure what.
I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array.
According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried
setting The StorSave preference to

LSI Logic raid status
Hi,
I have a LSI Logic sata/sas raid running, is there a way to see the
state of
the volume, like optimal, degraded or resyncing?
I've tried several commands with camcontrol but I cant figure it out.

Successful PCIe Graphics VT-d Passthrough to Win32 DomU, Q35 chipset

to pass a PCIe graphics card via VT-d to a Windows XP HVM DomU.
About time!
Config:
-Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad-Core, G0 stepping (I think)
-Intel DQ35JO Motherboard, Q35 Chipset, BIOS v.991 (1/9/09), VT and VT-d
enabled
-nVidia 9500GT (for VT-d passthrough - DomU)
-nVidia GeForce2 MX200 (Dom0 console)
