HW experience
Hi, we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller (Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ? thanxs, Martin

Server Recomendation
I am looking to install a system with 200 phones (polycom). There will be about 30-40 simultaneous calls. I am looking at the Dell 1950 with Quad 2.66, 2Gig RAM, Two 160 Gig SATA Drives (Mirrored with a Perc5 card), Dual Gig NIC, and RHEL 4.0. I will use two "gateways" for my PRI's and FXS Cards so PCI won't be used. I will probably use a small 14" 2U server to handle the ZAP Cards. Does anyone for see a problem with using the 1950? Good/Bad thoughts??? Thanks! -- *** Forre...

I have a perc5i (and perc5e) raid controller in my poweredge 2970 running centos 5.5. The RAID controller config is set for write-back policy, which I can confirm by checking in OpenManage. I also called Dell and ran their reporting application and had them double check to make sure everything looks OK hardwa...

Dell Perc 6 disk geometry problem with RAID5 (both 6.3 final and 7.0 RC1)
Hi, We bought a new Dell PowerEdge 2950III with Perc 6/i and have the disk geometry problem using 6.3 final or 7.0 RC1. Seems that we are not alone at least one guy has similar problem reported earlier: http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/questions/2008-01/msg00506.html I was reading the mailing list and found that some of the people are happily using this hardware with the latest

7.0-Release and 3ware 9550SXU w/BBU - horrible write performance
Hi, I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both 4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance for writes is just plain horrible. Something is obviously wrong but I'm not sure what. I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array. According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried setting The StorSave preference to
