Failed authentication to a mysql database (bug or PEBKAC?)
...mysql-client-4.1.10a-3 and mysql-shared-4.1.10a-3
I don't have any clue, why the connect fails. The password and the
username are both correct (triple verified ;-)) and the user has SELECT-
and USE- Permission for my_dbname.
Is there any known bug i didn't know about? Or is this a typical PEBKAC
situation?
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Re: Sum-up: Re-proposal: web forums
Hello, I have noted below problems that we can take care of, and those
that aren't our problem, never were, never will be, impossible to be our
problem, (you get the picture), because they are PEBKAC errors :)
For all of those that don't know: PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between
Keyboard and Chair.

IPP2P broken?
Hi,
I tried shorewall 2.2.0-rc4 and 2.2.0-rc5 on 3 different machines (just to be sure it''s not pebkac). The IPP2P support is broken, line like:
DROP loc net ipp2p
generates:
iptables -A loc2net -j DROP
that''s _wrong_ :)
i have tried playing with debug to no avail, and I''m not that good at bashing...
just to be complete, the suggested status.txt from one of the machines is at...

blind transfer dumping calls
I am using asterisk 1.4.10 and seem to be having a problem with blind
transfer. This could very well be a pebkac problem but I'm not sure.
A call comes in on a Zap channel and answered just find by a context
that does a Goto which calls a macro (seems convoluted now that I look
at it) to do some CID bookkeeping but that ultimately dials all of the
phones interested in calls from the Zap channel:

CentOS 7, PS-2 moose
I just built a workstation, CentOS 7, fully updated. My user requires his
three-button mouse, telling me that imaging software is written for
three-button mice (so *please* don't tell me to tell him to get a new
mouse).
Anyway, no cursor. In both /var/log/messages and journalctl, I see "unable
to enable mouse".
What I read in messages and manpages is that PS-2 is default

vfs_fruit works great on OS X 10.9.5, 10.10.3 notsomuch
Hi Ralph,
Ok, the problem was a PEBKAC issue. :-) Sorry to waste your time.
In troubleshooting this earlier, I'd created the file "nsmb.conf" in my
user Library directory with the following contents:
[default]
smb_neg=smb1_only
In earlier troubleshooting, some folks suggested that might help the
situation. It didn'...

vpopmail oddities
...alright, when attempting to connect via imaps to my .maildir based
vpopmail install, $user@$domain is having some problems.
/var/vpopmail/domains/$domain/$user is the location of the user
folders with vpopmail and yet dovecot isn't exactly passing on the
domain :-\ i'm not sure if this is a pebkac issue or if it's the root
of something far more evil, but this is really bothering me after
about 4 days.
i've got dovecot set to auth against vpopmail and i'm running a
dovecot authd. i know that i've given very little information, is
there any way that someone can ping me back re...

Logging options
Hi,
is it possible to configure dovecot's logging so it logs stuff like
"User x logged in from IP/Host y and had z new messages" like I'm used
from qpopper?
That immensely helps when debugging PEBKAC issues.
Enabling auth_verbose isnt really helpfull since a failed login
generates 4 lines, some even without a pid - so it's a bit hard guessing
which log entry belongs to which login attempt or even writing a script
which checks for those.

[Possibly OT] rpm conflicts has me confused
...-skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
and I tried each of those, but no joy.
Is this an rpm bug, a checkinstall bug, or PEBKAC
(problem exists between keyboard and chair)?

Hmm really hard to tell what it was without seeing the logs.
Could you give us the last 20 lines or so from both access.log and error.log for the icecast server?

I had such effects in the past too. In most cases it was plain PEBKAC... ;)
(misspelled passwords, wrong mountpoints, ...)

There are others of course, and I have had good success in the past getting
answers. In my experience, the source of the problem is usually PEBKAC.

In this case, no. He's working with mostly open-source heavy duty
scientific imaging software.

aasm callback order?
Hello!
Sometime ago I ran across a webpage where someone had identified the
full callback sequence for an object lifecycle including AASM with
it''s :enter and :exit and whatnot callbacks. Unfortunately, I can''t
find it and searches don''t seem to help.
Does anyone have a reference to a page that shows the callback
sequence with Acts As State Machine (the gem)?

Server 2016 locked in paused state
Hi all,
I have a number of production Windows servers on KVM/DRBD and two of
them are Server 2016. Both these guests have started exhibiting the
same behaviour where they enter a paused state and will not resume.
The behaviour is the same whether I use virsh or virt-manager. My only
recourse is to force the guest off and start it again. This brings the
host up temporarily where upon it

CentOS7 - Serial Console and Flow Control
Hello List,
I'm ironing out details to upgrade a few systems to CentOS7.
My servers have BMC with Serial over LAN support. In C5 and C6, I
determined how to have BIOS/POST, kernel, and serial console access. I'm
reading up on the method to accomplish the pieces with C7.
Presently SoL output works, so I see BIOS/POST messages and the GRUB boot
list.
My changes to enable serial

Oh, yeah such customers exist, PITA and PEBKAC in most cases.
First testing the mouse on a "older" comp, does it work there?
Next testing, does the PS/2 plug hole on the new board work?
Some of the newer boards only work with keyboards on PS/2.
On testing, if the mouse works, there are adapters "PS/2 female" to
"USB...
