2.2.6 and printer questions
Hi @all,
I have 2 questions about printer driver installation on w2k-client for a samba served printer:
1.
If I want to install a driver on w2k workstation, I choose network printer and then can browse the network. If printers are served from a Nt/w2k-server, in my opinion it is not nessesary to double click the netbios name of the Nt/w2k-server to see the shared printers. In this case under

HOWTO Create a PDF Writer in samba
Hi all,
Thought I'd post this to the list as I found a better way of doing
it. Nice to have for posterity.
Please include it in the source of samba if you wish - I hereby license
it under GPL
1. install ghostscript (most distributions include it anyway)
2. put the following in the file /usr/sbin/pdfprint and make it executable
by whatever your guest user for samba is :
#!/bin/bash

samba 2.2.9 - strange printing problem
...(252) notebook01 (192.168.10.29)
could'nt find service lpb8-a4-ra
the strange thing is:
the service is named "lpb8-a4-raw"
also the same with the other printers:
service "hpusb" -> "hpus"
service "pdfplotter" -> "pdfplotte"
service "pdfprinter" -> "pdfprinte"
samba is reading the services from etc/printcap.

printer access slow
Hi,
I installed a samba printer, that maps to a script to generate pdf files. It
works, but there's a notable delay when selecting or printing to the
printer: when I click 'print' in an application and I select the samba
printer, there's a delay of about 5 to 10 seconds before the printer is
accepted, and I can effectively print.
Any clues on what could be the cause (and the

force user statement ignored, BUG in 2.2.8?
Hi,
I have trouble with the "force user" statement in 2.2.8. I'am using a small
perl script to print into a PDF file via a printerdriver on a Win-client.
It's basically a ps2pdf. This script must run as root, or it'll crash (don't
know why, looks like a Ghostscript error, but thats not the point). Therefor
I inserted a force user = root in my conf. Then I have a strange

Network disks not unmounting
When I log in into the domain a logon script is started that assigns some network drives. But when I log and on again the script gives an error in the form of:
The local device name is already in use
Is this a bug or is it just windows? Can anybody tell me how to solve this?

Samba printing fails for Windows clients, was working, now fails...
Hi all
The printing via Samba+Cups has stopped working. I'm
using Mandrake 10.0 Official as a Samba server for
file sharing and printing on a Windows network.
Printing from a WindowsXP client to the Samba server
now fails and I don't know why it has suddenly
stopped, it used to work. File sharing still works
okay.
There are on no errors logged on the Linux Samba box,
the Windows

get_share_mode_lock: get_static_share_mode_data failed: NT_STATUS_NO_MEMORY
Upgraded to Samba 4.11.2 and I?ve now too started seeing the message:
get_share_mode_lock: get_static_share_mode_data failed: NT_STATUS_NO_MEMORY
A lot. I modified the source in source3/locking/share_mode_lock.c a bit in order to print out the values of the service path, smb_fname & old_write_time when it fails and it seems they are all NULL?

Samba AD Auth Stops After Patches
Hello, I have an issue that I can't sort out.
Issue: Just applied the latest round of patches that brought me up to this
Samba version and
suddenly end-users are being prompted for authentication when attempting to
access shares
on this CentOS box from their Windows Vista, 7x86, and 7x64 workstations.
Problem: I am new to Samba and seem to not be connecting the dots

pdf-printer
Hi,
I recently migrated from samba3 to samba4.
On the samba3 server I had a "printer" that converted pcl6 to pdf. I
tried to make a similar printer in samba4, but it's not working.
Not working means the printed document is nowhere to be found.
This is the section in smb.conf :
[papyrusPDF]
comment = Papyrus-to-PDF printer
path = /var/spool/samba

Problem mapping Samba shares in Windows
Hi,
In our company we are currently running a Samba server and Windows XP clients.
At the moment we are having problems with mapping Samba shares in Windows.
Shares are being mapped through a windows startup script, which executes net use (with the option persistent:no) command.
For most users this works most of the time, nevertheless it often fails, the exect reason for this isn't clear
