rsync for PDAs?
I've been working for the past few months with open-source solutions for
syncing Palm PDAs (Coldsync, mostly). I've been becoming increasingly
annoyed with Palm's Desktop Link Protocol and the sync mechanism, and am
considering replacing it with a third-party application for the Palm. Since
I've had good luck with rsync in the past, its seemed an obvious choice.
I'v...

Vorbis suitable for PDAs?
As Linux is starting to apperar on handhelds the tought of having a portable Vorbis-player is everpresent in my mind.
However, one things worries me...
A user running linux on his (ipaq?) PDA reported skipping and halted playback using mpeg123. Apparently this was caused by lack of processor resources because mpeg123 was programmed for a FPU-enabled CPU. (Thus performing very poor on a

Speex hardware requirements?
Compared to todays PDAs the GameBoy Advance (GBA) is low spec. it has a
16MHz ARM7tdmi RISC processor. 32-bit but it can handle 16-bit
instructions in a mode that resembles "bytecode" (a 32-bit instruction
is executed using a 16-bit instruction). I got a feeling that the GBA
would need a FPU.

PDA as source client
Has anybody used anything other than a PC as a source for icecast2? Are
PDAs powerfull enough? I know vorbis encoding takes a signifigant amount
of CPU power, but I've been able to do it on 4 year old PCs. Does a
206MHz Intel StrongARM 32-bit RISC processor have as much power as a 200
Mhz Pentium?
I'm thinking Compaq iPaq, running Familiar Linux and IceS, would m...

Speex hardware requirements?
Hi evrybody,
I wonder witch hardware requirements it is for speex decoding
(especially 16kHz mono sound).
Could it be possible to use the Gameboy advance hardware if you added a
FPU? or dose it need to be more powerfull?

On recent x86 processors, floating point is faster than fixed-point.

Flat file as storage backend or what ...
Hi.
I''m just starting out with Rails. I''m thinking of writing a web based
PIM, partly as a learning experience, partly because I need one. I''ll
be using iCalendar and vCard files for for storage because it will let
me sync with PDAs, and use other already available PIMs.
What would be the best practice for this?
a) At the beginning of a session pull all my vevents and vcards into
ActiveRecords, and write them back to the flat file at the end of
every session?
b) Skip the ActiveRecord thing and read in the vcard/ical files o...

Vocoder for SA-1110 proccessor
Hello,
I'm interested in a low rate vocoder to run on SA-1110 or XScale
processor (for PDAs voice application).
Is there a suitable speex vocoder for that?
Thanks in advance,
Eyal.

Pocket PC 2002 and 2003, and Palm OS 5 operating system. I offer myself

I think narrowband decoding should work then (at least if you disable
perceptual enhancement). As for wideband, it would at least require
shortcuts in the QMF (replacing with IIR filter) to work.

[fdo] Request to host project "OpenSync" a synchronization framework
Hi
i am Armin Bauer, one of the developers of Multisync, an application to
sync various pdas, cellulars and other programs (see www.multisync.org

We recently ran into design limitations with our current version, which
was where we decided to develop a new major version of Multisync. I
started working on the new design but quickly noticed to there are a lot

The problem is, that there is no FPU in these devices (ARM processors
generally can include FPUs but not the Intel StrongARM used in those
little PDAs), so arm-linux comes with a floating point emulation
and I guess this causes the troubles.
Of course simple things like

work, but even when it comes to simple plots the next problems
arise (wrong plot coordinates resulting in strange pictures).

[Half-OT] PDA Clients and Rails
Hello!
I''d like to gather some points about running a rails application on a
PDA. As a condition I''d like to use Palm and Windows Mobile based PDA to
target a huge user audience (this could be become difficult I know,
only Windows Mobile for the start is although okay).
I googled the last weeks and found out that there were only a few web
browsers out there. E.g. Mozilla

Speex hardware requirements?
Hi,
Decoding Speex is really cheap (about 10x faster than encoding). I
expect most PDAs (no FPU) will be able to decode Speex at 16 kHz in
real-time. I have no idea what CPU the Gameboy advance uses, so I can't
say.
