CentOS 6 : Tip for significantly increasing battery life / reducing power consumption (Thinkpad X220 Tablet)
...x86_64 on a new Lenovo Thinkpad x220 Tablet and I worked on reducing it. I just wanted to share with the list one of the changes which gave me the most significant improvement. As per http://www.williambrownstreet.net/blog/?p=387, add the following kernel arguments to the GRUB boot configuration: pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 (in /boot/efi/EFI/redhat/grub.conf since I use EFI, /boot/grub/grub.conf otherwise) As measured using PowerTop, this made the power consumption decrease from 20W to 11W ! (I had already decreased it from 25W to 20W with the...

Anyone already tried to backport the latest ASPM kernel patch to 6.2?
After going from CentOS 5.7 to 6.2, a lot of things turned out to be much better, but there are also quite some regressions. The most obvious one is power consumption on my notebook. It was notably lower before. The ASPM issue introduced in 2.6.38 was widely reported and discussed, and the 6.2 kernel has exacatly this code as a backport.

Xen 4.2.1 boot failure with IOMMU enabled
Hi all I already posted about this problem on xen-users some time ago (http://markmail.org/message/sbgtyjqh6bzmqx4s) but I couldn''t resolve my problem using help from people on xen-users, so I''m posting here . I have a problem with enabling IOMMU on Xen 4.2.1. When I enable it in BIOS and in grub.conf using iommu=1 kernel option, my machine cannot boot. I get a following error

We have upgraded to the latest stock CentOS kernel and added the following to the kernel command line in grub. pcie_aspm=off I've also taken the draconian measure of adding a ping to the default route in the watchdog.conf file to cause a reboot if it happens again. I have looked at the driver version in the latest long term kernel (3.10.40-1.el6.elrepo) and it shows as the same as this kernel. From modinfo r816...
