all occasions the rsync backup is running when this

Change machine name without a reboot?
...overwritten by some system update if this updates also your
Samba packages (note: I never had nor tested that behaviour with Samba
packages, but it happens for other packages).

Change machine name without a reboot?
I'm having trouble changing the machine name programmatically on Samba 4
(running under systemd). There's no "netbios name" option in smb.conf, so
I'm relying on it using the hostname. Here's what I'm doing:
1) Call sethostname() with the new name.
2) Write the same name into /etc/hostname, to make it nonvolatile.
3) Read a decimal number from /var/run/smbd.pid.

Samba 4 join AD by samba
Hi,
I have a task which requires AD + windows roaming profiles + automatic
backups.
I want to use samba 4 AD server (debian jessie) + samba 4 file server for
user's home profiles (opensuse 13.1) + zfs for storage backend.
The reason why I need 2 servers (actually a server with hosted lxc
container) is because opensuse has kerberos mit by default (
samba at lists.samba.org.)
I've

Domain join issues - 4.9.0
...servicePrincipalName > /tmp/computer.ldif
Replace 'dc1' with your DC short hostname and
'dc=samdom,dc=example,dc=com' with your ldap info
This actually raises an interesting question, when I run it, it lists
all my computers, but the only ones that have a
'RestrictedKrbHost/PC_NAME' SPN are windows PC's, not one of my Unix
computers has such a line.

failed to get machine password for account
...available, the strange thing is the other machines can log in
without problems.
In the /var/log/samba/smbd.log i got the following error when the
machine tries to log in:
[2008/04/08 08:47:58, 0] rpc_server/srv_netlog_nt.c:_net_auth_2(461)
_net_auth2: failed to get machine password for account pc_name$:
NT_STATUS_NO_TRUST_SAM_ACCOUNT
I had to create a new machine account in the server and change the
machine name in order to get into the domain. I will appreciate any tip
in order to fix it up.
My OS is centOS 4.4 and samba 3.025xx

ShowMessage (second attempt)
Surely someone out there knows how to notify their
Windows users that access to their samba server is
going to be terminated....
Any help will be *greatly* appreciated.
------ Original Message -------
I would like to shut down samba before I begin my
backup routine. Before I do this, I would like to
send a message to the users who are logged in on their
Windows machines, asking them to log

Domain join issues - 4.9.0
Hi,
Does anyone have experience of using ldbedit or similar, to remove the
duplicates below? (Is that even the right way for me to go?) Can I
perhaps query something using ldbsearch, to find the duplicates,
before using ldbedit?
