NIS passwd and paswd.byname map encryption
Hello listmates. It appears that in order to authenticate a Mac OS X Lion client via NIS the passwords in passwd and passwd.byname maps need to be MD5 encrypted. How do I see what encryption has been used in my maps? How do I change it? Thanks. Boris.

Unable to join to domain: The username could not be found.
Hi, This is my first post here, so if I make any mistakes, warnings are always welcome. I'm working in an organization and we are migrating are domain controllers from windows to linux. I'm trying to deploy a working configuration of samba. Using openSuSE 10.0. I was following the Keith Robertson's how-to from IBM-Developerworks but in the end; the finished installation fails to

Samba 4.11.6 cannot JOIN - 'Could not find machine account'
...PC's. BTW, this same Samba join error was happening before I did all that, though, and it didn't seem to help to raise functionality. But it does seem like some permission on the Windows side might be missing for the new Samba DC to join the domain. I would think that the administrator paswd provided to samba-tool would be enough, though. This issue is similar: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13298 Here is how I am attempting the join (my bash script): ----- echo "Stopping Samba services..." service samba stop >/dev/null || true service samba-ad-dc stop >...

Winbind do not maintains mappings between UIDs, GIDs and SIDs
...succeeded. Is this normal behaviour? 2.Winbind do not maintain mappings between UIDs, GIDs and SIDs Winbindd and smbd are running, but when I run getent passwd I receive list of linux local users. And I?m not able to login to my linux machine until I manually add information about user in \etc\paswd. But this is unacceptable for me because I have 600+ users in my domain. Is there way how to make winbind to automaticaly update user mappings? 3. When I manually add informations about user into passwd I?m able to login but after inserting username I have to insert my password twice. Where can...

Cannot retrieve user/group information
...idmap backend = ad idmap range = 1000-999999 password server = foo.bar.baz winbind nss info = rfc2307 winbind separator = / winbind use default domain = yes winbind nested groups = yes I should also mention that kinit works successfully on the machine, and getent paswd/group works as well (using pam_ldap against the AD). Finally, I have a machine with very similar configuration already on the network which works. The primary difference is that it is running a much older version of samba (3.0.22). Thoughts? Please let me know if I can include more informat...

Samba4: "MYDOM\Administrator" quite useless on a member server?
Hello list, my DC and member server is running Samba 4.1.12. The DC was provisioned with rfc2307 and NIS extensions. Through ADUC tool and the [UNIX Attribute] tab I assigned a uid to the AD user "testuser1" and I also assigned a gid to the AD group "Domain Users". The member server was configured according the official wiki of samba.org. Winbind was configured on the member

Problems with MySQL/PAM authentication
Hi, I'm using (or trying to at least) a combination of PAM/passwd and MySQL authentication: auth vmail { mechanisms = plain userdb = sql /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf passdb = sql /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf user = root } auth system { mechanisms = plain userdb = passwd passdb = pam imap user = root } MySQL

PDC on 3.0.8 upgraded to 3.5.6-70 now getting 'Access Is Denied' from clients
...nstallation and did a clean Fedora core 14 installation and then untarred all the content for my shares and put /etc/samba/* back in place and fired up the new samba. I had hoped that I coud just stick the tdb files over and everything would just keep working. But I think maybe I had multiple paswd.tbd and secret.tdb files and didn't realize the one actually being used because after doing so, pdbedit -w -L showed no users. So I added all the users back in via smbpasswd -a. I unjoined my machines from the domain and rejoined them. Everything *mostly* seems like it should be workin...
