FreeBSD5.1 as PDC cant connect winXP box
I am at the end of my rope, I am trying to get a winxp box to logon to a pdc using freebsd5.1 and keep getting "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad passsword." or "Access Denied". I am trying to logon with 'root' and the user is in smbpasswd and /etc/passwd. I think my problem is I am not sure how to add the machine account into the samba server. I have tried just

auth_debug_passwords only on mismatches?
>From the configuration notes (1.0.10), it sounds like setting 'auth_debug_passwords' will only log the user supplied password if there was a mismatch.. When I set it (with auth_debug=no), I get a good amount of auth debug info, regardless of password matching.. ------ dovecot.conf: # In case of password mismatches, log the passwords and used scheme so the # problem can be debugged.

security = none?
...tricting access so that when I connect to the net people can't just start using my samba server), I am wanting to essentially remove the security feature (well, for that reason and the fact that I can't get the bloody thing to work in either user or security mode). I have tried setting null passswords = true, but this doesn't seem to do anything. How can I just turn off security? TIA -d

SSHA Password Hashing
We are currently running a production mail server using version 0.990.99.11-2 (latest RPM from RHEL/CentOS). We would like to migrate more virtual domains off our courier imap server to dovecot but the courier imap user passswords are stored in LDAP and are SSHA hashed which is not supported by our current version of dovecot (CRYPT only). >From reading the mailing lists this feature is now available but I am hesitant to move a production server to a beta software release. Apart from waiting for a 1.0-final RPM, what is...

Passwords on shares?
I want my home directory to appear on the samba network but require a password to unlock. Here we don't log in and out of different windoze computers so a roving home isn't really what I wan't. I wan't anyone on the samba network to be able to access the share if they have the passsword. I have added myself to the samba users list with the same password I use to log into the

Subject: I see my samba server but.............
Well first problem I see is you editied your sbm.conf...Should be smb.conf ;-) Can you access it as root? Id start by making sure the permissions are correct. And that the Sharename in smb.conf matches the folder name on the server and that the path is correct. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 14:10:54 -0600 From:

Migrated fine except passwords
Hello, I migrated 140 users and computer accounts from NT4 to Samba 3.0.14 with ldap today. Smbldap-tools are the latest stable version from tarball. No errors during vampire and everyone came over and the groups and group memberships populated fine. We couldn't connect to the server as any user from client PC's. The smbldaptools were set to use SSHA encryption for password attribute

Rspec Stories / Selenium Nightmare
I have been using Rspec stories with Webrat feeling very productive and happy. Then I needed to do something with Selenium (Webrat could have done what I needed but it does not yet have the functionality). Selenium-core as part of a rails plugin looked nice but did not seem to fit with rspec stories. So I went the Selenium-rc route. Since Selenium uses a separate instance of rails

Users/admin unable to reset passwords
It looks like I'm having a serious problem with passwords and domain credentials. After joining the office Windows workstations as domain members to the new AD, I used ADUC to set everyone's password to some value so I could verify their apps got updated when logging in. After doing that, I again used ADUC to check the box requiring everyone to change their passsword when logging in.

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while troubleshooting my printer setup problems. 1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3 debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors. Upping it to level-10, I saw something that pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744, the chmod errors went away.

Users/admin unable to reset passwords
New related issue. I upgraded the Domain Controller from 4.8.2 to 4.18.9 about 90 days ago, and set the 'Maximum password age' to 90 days. Today, two of the users' passwords were expired when they tried to log in this morning. They got the messaage that their password was expired and to change it, but when doing so they keep getting "your password has expired." I've
