UEFI boot manager sequence problems HP Envy
Morning all,
I have a HP Envy dual boot system (Win8 for serious stuff, i.e. Train Sim and Flight Sim) and Centos 7 for everything else.
In the past I've had the occasional problem where an update on the windows side has updated the UEFI boot sequence but using efibootmgr has always fixed it.
On Friday I discovered that my HDD was failing so I tried using Clonezilla to move it on to a new

This is all I was asking you to check. See the PARTUUID in the output
of blkid? PARTUUID="14c4ac1d-abd8-4121-84ee-c05a825920de"
It matches the UUID of the boot entry:

Problem: vga TEXT mode has only 8 colors when booting with syslinux
...after syslinux booting my
system, I can see only 8 different colours. Here's my syslinux.cfg:

The same application running on the same system displays 16 colours if
booted with grub2 (but still using VGA text mode). FWIW, grub2's config
is using:

Use GPT partition on USB stick and your problem is solved without need
to know the name of boot device.
All this comes to stating partuuid in linux kernel boot parameters in
syslinux config file.
By the way, you can get rid of initrd as well. All works fine on my
custom linux build.

Quirky does not use a initrd/initramfs, we go straight to the Quirky

File 'boot.msg' displays a simple message:

Building extlinux (Syslinux 6.03-pre11)
...to all make commands you execute?
I don't know if I need any COM32 modules: I'm building "make bios ..",
partitioning disk as gpt and plan to boot a single linux distro:
PROMPT 1
TIMEOUT 50
DEFAULT xxx
LABEL xxx
LINUX /boot/vmlinuz-3.12.19
APPEND root=PARTUUID=xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx \
rootfstype=ext4 rootdelay=1
I might add some options in text menu, but that's more less all of what I need.
Regards,
Alexey

Determine from which device syslinux booted from
Hi,
Is it possible to know (and pass it as a kernel argument) from which device
syslinux booted from?
My case is:
I have a USB stick with a custom linux installation. Syslinux boots from
it, load kernel and initrd. My initrd scans all blocks devices looking for
a valid root device and use it when it is found.
The problem is that sometimes I have another USB stick on the same computer
wich has

Building extlinux (Syslinux 6.03-pre11)
Hi all,
I'm building extlinux on a rather limited linux system (LFS), bios
version (no efi).
Unfortunately, extlinux.txt does not contain any information related
to build procedures and dependencies.
python /sources/syslinux-6.03pre11/com32/cmenu/menugen.py
--input=/sources/syslinux-6.03pre11/com32/cmenu/test2.menu
--output=test2.c
