Link to newest R GUI
...;s functions will meet nearly every program evaluator's
needs. However, most consultants in my geographic region have no programming
background, and instead have used (and have been trained to use) statistical
programs with GUIs such as SPSS.
Thanks in advance.

Multilevel models with mixed effects in R?
...usually have multiple independent and dependent variables in each
model along with covariates. I have historically utilized latent growth
curve structural equation models, but would like to include random
effects in the model. Does R have the ability to run such analyses?

Dissapearence of samba servers.
We have a LAN network consisting mostly of Win95 machines, with a couple
of NT boxes and 3 Linux-based Samba servers. Throw in a VAX running
Pathworks and a partridge in a pear tree.
Anyway, it seems that since Monday all three of the Samba boxes have
dissapeared from the browse lists (from the POV of the Windows users).
Typing in \\server only gives a "Network name not found error." However,
each of the samba servers can mount shares from the other...

How do I code this conditional statement in Ruby
Hi, I am a COBOL programmer and I am busy teaching myself Rails and Ruby.
In COBOL I can code this conditional
If x = 1
next sentence
else
..........................
The "next sentence" statement enables me to get out of the
conditional. How would I code the same thing in Ruby? In C you could
use break but I understand that Ruby has no break statement.

Asking hard questions about the NUT architecture
...rnaled and hardened so they
recover clean from power failures, what point is there in having your UPS
initiate a controlled shutdown N seconds beforehand?
I sure don't see enough of one to justify a multi-layer architecture
involving three concurrent processes, four configuration files, and a
partridge in a pear tree. NUT, as it is now, seems to me to be a
textbook case of massive overengineering and overkill based on
outdated assumptions.
One possible reply is that filesystem hardening sometimes fails. But
that objection implies the right solution, which is to fix the
filesystem hardening ra...

Help with loop
Hi,
I have two dataframes:
The first, df1, contains some missing data:
cola colb colc cold cole
1 NA 5 9 NA 17
2 NA 6 NA 14 NA
3 3 NA 11 15 19
4 4 8 12 NA 20
The second, df2, contains the following:
cola colb colc cold cole
1 1.4 0.8 0.02 1.6 0.6
I'm wanting all missing data in df1$cola to be replaced by the value of
df2$cola.

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down...

Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
"If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually
become ubiquitously implemented
