partiton resizing question
The hard disk in my server/gateway started developing bad sectors and making
very strange noises the other day.. anyway i got a new drive and copied over
the partiton containing linux (ext3) onto the new drive using norton ghost
which resized it from 500 odd Megabytes in size to 20 Gigabytes, the new
drive works great but i have a few concerns since ghost knows nothing of
ext3..

using the sharenfs=on. The owner- and group-id is 1009.
These partitions are visible as the user assigned above. But when I
mount the home/user partition from a FreeBSD-client, only the
top-partiton has the proper uid- and guid-assignment. The partitons
beneath are assigned to the root/wheel (uid 0 and gid 0 on FreeBSD).
Am I doing something wrong

I would like to ask you the following questions about OCFS.
I think we can't extend OCFS partition ,is it correct ?
If it is correct,is there technical subject that is made not to extend
OCFS partition?
I would be greatful if you could provide me with now and future condition.
Thank you in advance for your attention.

Problem with Dell Poweredge 1850
All,
I seem to be experiencing the same problem that Michal Urbanski talked
about in an email dated March 24th with a subject of "hanging dell
hardware". Looking through the archives I can not find any resolution to
the problem. The specs on my machine are

Creation of additional image within a domU
Chaps,
Perhaps this question is a little basic for this list but I''m not
really sure of the simplest method or best tool for the job.
I''ve created some images with `dd=/dev/zero ....` and I''m using them
for the domUs now. Some of them have been running for a few months
with no probs. Trouble is that I''d like to create a separate partition
within the domU.

The Partititons Magic 5.0 I can't use with ext3 only with ext2.

/dev/sd and /dev/mapper
I've done a little research, and can't really find out why it happens,
but on one server I have built, I get the old fashion /dev/sda1,
/dev/sda2 type partitions and on another server I get the /dev/mapper
style partitions. Both machines are hardware raided (before the install)
and both machines are Centos 5.5 64 bit, using the same set of CDs to
install from.
Can someone please

Why does disable loading of zfs module in boot causes
Hello,
I tried to disable loading of the zfs module by adding
"exclude zfs" in /etc/system.
I rebooted and got into "maintainance mode" with many services disbaled (as svcs -xv shows).
I don''t have any zfs partitons on this machine.
So my question is: for what is the zfs module in booting
of solaris ? Why can''t it be disabled?
Regards,
David

new devices for ocfs
Hello,
RHAS 2.1
ocfs -1.0.12.1
We have to exchange our current disksystem (from /dev/sdbX to
/dev/emcpowera). Planned is to create partitons with the same name like
on the old device and then simply copy the files to the new device.
Question is now whether there is any impact (similar to change of NIC)
on configuration,etc?
As far as i know ocfs saves device-informations only in the volume
header (maj, min), so this shouldn't be...

Kernel panic due to vg00 not found while not using LVM at all
...me group vg00 not found
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormaly!
Creating root device
--<snip>--
After that it's trying to mount root and it fails with kernel panic.
This system is using disk partitions. It's not using LVM.
I can boot in rescue mode and "chmod /mnt/sysimage". All partitons are
there and mountable. No fsck errors. I checked /boot/grub/grub.conf and
it looks fine to me. The time stamp was from last month when I did the
first update. Also there are no new files in /boot since the update from
last month.
Why is it looking for logical volumes? Any idea?
Thanks

transfer data from one hard drive to another
Hello I have an OS installation and data on a 40 gb drive that I would
like to image to a 80 gb drive. I don't care if the resulting
partition layout on the new drive is only 40 gb making me lose space.
I just want to move everything from the older drive because I think
it's failing. I have looked at partimage and mondo rescue as imaging
solutions but both deal with partitions. CAn someone
