partiton resizing question
The hard disk in my server/gateway started developing bad sectors and making
very strange noises the other day.. anyway i got a new drive and copied over
the partiton containing linux (ext3) onto the new drive using norton ghost
which resized it from 500 odd Megabytes in size to 20 Gigabytes, the new
drive works great but i have a few concerns since ghost knows nothing of
ext3..
since the size of the partition has changed, will i need to recreate the ext3

Then I have do a chown -R for that user. These partitions are shared
using the sharenfs=on. The owner- and group-id is 1009.
These partitions are visible as the user assigned above. But when I
mount the home/user partition from a FreeBSD-client, only the
top-partiton has the proper uid- and guid-assignment. The partitons
beneath are assigned to the root/wheel (uid 0 and gid 0 on FreeBSD).

I think we can't extend OCFS partition ,is it correct ?
If it is correct,is there technical subject that is made not to extend
OCFS partition?
I would be greatful if you could provide me with now and future condition.
Thank you in advance for your attention.

Creation of additional image within a domU
.... Some of them have been running for a few months
with no probs. Trouble is that I''d like to create a separate partition
within the domU. Options:-
1 - use fdisk? Not sure if that''s possible for a file-based image.
Can''t run it within the domU
2 - run dd to create another partiton? Not sure how that would work
3 - create the new image from scratch and create the new partition as
required and tell /etc/fstab about it.

...ided (before the install)
and both machines are Centos 5.5 64 bit, using the same set of CDs to
install from.
Can someone please explain why this happens? I'm not sure it matters, so
this is just a curious bother. The machines are different brands with
different raid controllers. Both were partitoned using the "custom
layout" when installed. I'm thinking I must have overlooked a checkbox
or something during the install.
This is not a big deal, not a problem, it's just an itch in my brain.
Thanks for any explanation.

Access denied on on rw vfat partition

I am trying to run Gentran60CL using wine, and it gives me an error

Works fine on the windows side. I tried copying this directory to a unix
partiton, creating a drive in the wine config file and running "wine

giving myself ownership of the /win partition, changing file permissions
(they are 777 right now), etc. For some reason, the gentran exe won't

hard drive failing in linux raid
...shut down the server, replace the
hard drive, make the server boot from second IDE drive and hopefully
boot into Centos. From there do I have to manually create each
/dev/mdx partition and then re-add them like this....mdadm /dev/mdx -a
/dev/hdax ? That is what I am not sure about whether I have to
partiton the drive exactly like the old one or if Centos mdadm can do
some magic for me with a blank drive. TIA!!

Ah ha. I think I found the culprit.
I had mounted several partitions from a disk image a while back
and apparently never unmounted them nor removed the partiton mappings.
Got rid of those and now there's no "phantom" trash.

Why does disable loading of zfs module in boot causes
Hello,
I tried to disable loading of the zfs module by adding
"exclude zfs" in /etc/system.
I rebooted and got into "maintainance mode" with many services disbaled (as svcs -xv shows).
I don''t have any zfs partitons on this machine.
So my question is: for what is the zfs module in booting
of solaris ? Why can''t it be disabled?
Regards,
David

new devices for ocfs
Hello,
RHAS 2.1
ocfs -1.0.12.1
We have to exchange our current disksystem (from /dev/sdbX to
/dev/emcpowera). Planned is to create partitons with the same name like
on the old device and then simply copy the files to the new device.
Question is now whether there is any impact (similar to change of NIC)
on configuration,etc?
As far as i know ocfs saves device-informations only in the volume
header (maj, min), so this shouldn't b...

gtasa
hi all
I am using Ubuntu Dapper at the moment (after using windows for so
long) dualbooting alongside windows
So i have all my games and applications for windows...
One of those games is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
Using wine i'm trying to run gtasa from my windows partiton (yes it is
NTFS filesystem) and it keeps telling me that it couldn't find the
sound card.
So can someone tell me how to fix this issue to be able to run gtasa
(so that i can then run mtasa (multi theft auto) ) That would be
fantastic.
On a sidenote, i am thinking of getting another hardrive (...

Kernel panic due to vg00 not found while not using LVM at all
...me group vg00 not found
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormaly!
Creating root device
--<snip>--
After that it's trying to mount root and it fails with kernel panic.
This system is using disk partitions. It's not using LVM.
I can boot in rescue mode and "chmod /mnt/sysimage". All partitons are
there and mountable. No fsck errors. I checked /boot/grub/grub.conf and
it looks fine to me. The time stamp was from last month when I did the
first update. Also there are no new files in /boot since the update from
last month.
Why is it looking for logical volumes? Any idea?
Thanks

transfer data from one hard drive to another

I just want to move everything from the older drive because I think
it's failing. I have looked at partimage and mondo rescue as imaging
solutions but both deal with partitions. CAn someone plz point me to a
howto that shows how to image the entire drive incuding mbr, partiton
table and data all with one program? I am hoping to boot with a CD to
do this while having both drives plugged in. So I think something like
knoppix? TIA!
