grub errors after fresh install, partiions with md and lvm
I've done a fresh install on a new system with 2 SATA drives, Seagate
80GB each. This is the first time I've done an installation where I
used software raid to provide mirroring capability to the system. The
raid is level 1 for mirroring. I used the installation documention on
RedHat's enterprise site to go thru the installation/configuration for
this. I didn't receive any

F18: Create a USB install of CentOS 6 from iso
Hi all,
On a F18, I installed livecd-tools-18.15-1
I downloaded CenOS6.x minimal .iso and with livecd-iso-to-disk the
resulting USB is never bootable: the computer doesnt boot on it. Tested
on many computers.
The fact is I succeded to install CentOS on a Netbook (no CD/DVD tray),
but I dont remember how I invoked livecd-iso-to-disk.
I tried with many combinations (/dev/sdc is the USB

how can I tell what's on the MBR of /dev/sda?
Subject says it.
I would like to find out if I have anything written on the MBR of a disk
in my system /dev/sda, or any other device.
If there is something there, is it readable, or recognizable to humans?
thanks,

the MBR contains both binary boot code, which is not human readable, and
the master partiion table for the device. you can

It is preferrable to create PV on the whole disk also to manage these kind
of situations.
In case I have to manage with partitions, the must is that you can do it
only if it is the last partition, and you

flashboot on Soekris 4826
I''m trying to work through the procedure for installing Flashboot for the first time. This Soekris has no removable CF, so I''m using PXEboot to start the standard 5.2 bsd.rd kernel and then see if I could noodle my way through it.
I formatted the disk with newfs (specifically, I formatted the "a" partition on the disk), copied the "boot" program over, then

Dual boot Win98 Centos sharing files
Greetings -
I have searched the mailing list archives and my Samba 3 book and have not
seen this issue addressed anywhere. My home desktop box has Win98 installed
on a 20 GB drive and Centos 4.4 on a 160 GB drive with a Grub menu for
selecting which OS to boot. I am wondering if it is theoretically possible
to share (read and write) files on the Linux drive when booted to Window,
and vice

Howto install domU CentOS 5 directly on partition
Hi.
I am new to CentOS (Debian user) and I am looking for way how to install
CentOS 5 on domU in the way that I have it directly on dom0 LVM partition.
If I install it with virtual-manager then the installation program takes
that partition as a disk and then creates new partitions on it. I don''t
want it that way because I cannot then mount it from dom0.
Is there some way how to

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster problems, cluster performance issues
Hi all again:
I'm now subscribed to gluster-users as well, so I should get any replies
from that side too.
At this point, I am seeing acceptable (although slower than I expect)
performance much of the time, with periodic massive spikes in latency
(occasionally so bad as to cause ovirt to detect a engine bad health
status). Often, if I check the logs just then, I'll see those call traces

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster problems, cluster performance issues
I've been back at it, and still am unable to get more than one of my
physical nodes to come online in ovirt, nor am I able to get more than the
two gluster volumes (storage domains) to show online within ovirt.
In Storage -> Volumes, they all show offline (many with one brick down,
which is correct: I have one server off)
However, in Storage -> domains, they all show down (although

The profile seems to suggest very high latencies on the brick at
ovirt1.nwfiber.com:/gluster/brick1/engine
ovirt2.* shows decent numbers. Is everything OK with the brick on ovirt1?
Are the bricks of engine volume on both these servers identical in terms of
their config?
