(unclassified?) Help Question
Dear List,
I'd appreciate you guidance for obtaining the desired result shown
below, by combining tapply(x, g, mean) and g in the example.
Basically, I'm trying to create a vector whose values are based on the
result from tapply(x, g, mean) but that follow the pattern and length
given by the factor g. Of course I'm looking for a generic solution
(i.e, not something that just work

liveice Question
Ok, is this possible: I want to have a 128k and a 24k stream of a
particualr audio program, plugged into the line in of my Ensoniq AudioPCI
128 (es1370 chipset) Is there any way to do this with just one soundcard,
or do I need two?
Thanks

1. Martin Maechler's comments should be taken as replacements
for anything I wrote where appropriate. Any apparent conflict is a
result of his superior knowledge.
2. 'eigen' returns the eigenvalue decomposition assuming the
matrix is symmetric, ignoring anything in m[upper.tri(m)].

liveice Question
Works just fine - though it might not be documented (seems like this info
was dropped from the sample liveice.cfg file in the later distributions).
Basically, at the end of liveice.cfg add the line:
ENCODER_STREAM_SET 1
then define the values that would be different on the 2nd stream, ie:
NAME Scott's 24kb/s stream
SERVER xxxx.yyy.com
PORT 80xx
PASSWORD (if different than 128k)

break the long R code lines automatically
Dear
all,
I have
written some R source program with many thousands of lines. I didn’t insert
line breaks automatically or manually for the long lines. But now I would like
to edit the source code in Emacs/ESS to make it more formal as a package. One of
the major problems here is how to break the long lines automatically. Emacs auto-fill-mode
only works for the lines you are typing in currently,

liblame vs libmp3lame.... anyways, it don't work.
I took the latest installation of lame (both stable and beta) and
installed those with the default install variables. The last one I
compiled was lame3.87.
I then have the ices-0.0.1.beta5 and config'd the sources with
./configure --with-perl --with-lame and installed.
Yet, when I run ices -R, it complains with the following line when I run
the -R option:

Hung XFS filesystems on Samba server
This is probably a hardware problem but I am posting here in case anyone
else has seen it or it is actually software.
If you have seen anything like it please let me know.
Chuck
For the last 1.5 years I have had occasional problems on a large (6.8
TB) Samba server. Two of the mounted filesystems will partially dismount
at intervals between 3 days and 3 months. Files will still be open but

Tell me the truth about WINE
I'm an avid gamer, I play all kinds of games and a wide variety of specific
titles, be they on the A-list or B-list. How realistic would it be for a
person like me to rely solely on WINE for PC gaming? I understand that the
pace with which WINE can catch up is relatively quick (a few months), but a
few months is still a long time to wait if I'm itching to get started on a
new release. I
