question about memory auto-translate and paravirtual and no pseudophysical overlay
...ement modes as follows
* This scheme provides consistent function and variable names even when
* different guests are running in different memory-management modes.
* 1. A guest running in auto-translated mode (e.g.,
shadow_mode_translate())
* will have gpfn == gmfn and gmfn != mfn.
* 2. A paravirtualised x86 guest will have gpfn != gmfn and gmfn == mfn.

windows and type=paravirtualised
Hi!
What benefits do I get if I put "type=paravirtualised" in my network card
config for a Win2k8 domU with PV drivers installed?
Is it necessary, will it improve performance?
I have read about this option here:
http://plone.lucidsolutions.co.nz/linux/xen/windows/windows-server-2008-r2-xen-hvm-installation-with-gpvpv-drivers
Thanks,
Daniel

Paravirtualised drivers for fully virtualised domains
(The list appears to have eaten my previous attempt to send this.
Apologies if you receive multiple copies.)
The attached patches allow you to use paravirtualised network and
block interfaces from fully virtualised domains, based on Intel''s
patches from a few months ago. These are significantly faster than
the equivalent ioemu devices, sometimes by more than an order of
magnitude.
These drivers are explicitly not considered by XenSource to be an...

I has xen virtual machine in paravirtualisation. Host and guest sysstems
are CentOS. When I use top in guest machine I see, that system use 20%
resourses. But in host machine I see, that machine use 50% resourses.
In config machine has 5 processors, and has cpu_cap 352. Processor is
2266MHz. Therefor for statistic in guest machine it use ~ 2266 MHz(1
processor), and for Xen hypervisor - 4000

VNC access console of paravirtualised DomU
Hi,
I''ve seen this asked a few times, but I just can''t work out whether I am misinterpreting how this is supposed to work, or if it is just broken in my setup.
What I want is to be able to see the character cell console of DomU''s via VNC. As far as I understand, when I create/startup the DomU, then a vnc server should start listening on my Dom0. I have tried every

Occasional lock timeouts on Linode VM with Dovecot Replication
...cur several times per day, but don't appear to have any obvious
cause and I am not aware of any problems this is causing. [They could
be the cause of some reappearing UID type messages that also
periodically are logged, but I can't be sure]
They occur on a lightly loaded Linode VM, KVM Paravirtualised and with
only local SSD disk storage. The VM is a Gentoo Linux VM running the
latest kernels that Linode provide. I also saw this problem under Xen.
The dovecot setup is a dsync replication between two hosts, there is
about 150ms of latency between them. The host where I am seeing these

hardware accelerated 3D-graphics in Win-XP-domU possible?
Is there any way to make gaming in domU work? It''s not clear to me, if
this can be done with open-gl or so.
If this is impossible now, is some development planned in this area?
Eventually I would wait buying my next pc until the necessary cpu features
are available.
TIA, martin

cpufreq problems with hvm
Hi all,
I was wondering if cpu frequency scaling in dom0 (using the cpufreq=dom0-kernel
boot parameter) may cause problems with HVM domUs? This is on Xen 3.2.1.
PV domUs seem to work just fine. They adjust to the frequency change on the go.
The HVM I run using the unmodified_driver drivers (also from the 3.2.1 release)
seem to have very slow timers if dom0 lowers the frequency.
