OK before i start, this was something i was just testing while everyone was in training this afternoon. I have never had to deal with subnets before as we only have a few users, but decided to do a little bit of messing around to gain some experience. Basically we have one server (mandriva 2006) running samba, it has two 4 port ethernet cards in it but only utilitising one port from each card.

If i save a 160 KB Excel file (Excel 2000 and XP) on a Windows 2000 Client, then samba hangs. Can anyone tell me exactly how the various add machine/user/group/etc/ scripts work in Samba? I know how to set them up in smb.conf. That's not problem. But how are they invoked? Some use Samba specific variables like %u and %m. How do you run a script manually to use these variables?
