Vorbis Stuff on Slashdot
...of comments and moderation points, so
it's given me some "animo" to fix it up and put the rest of it out there.
I'm going to distribute this under an open content license. If anyone
wants to print it in the trade press or newbie sites feel free, but keep it
intact.
http://papaya.altamente.com/ogg.html
I think it's an easy to read, non techie look at music encoding (ogg in
particular) that should be a nice intro for newbies.
Any technical details that I've missed or errors that I've made, I'd
appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,

Channel Coupling and Quality (-q 5 vs -q 4.99)
Thought I'd throw another log on to the quality debate to liven things up a
bit. Does anyone have any evidence anecdotal or otherwise on the difference
between -q 5 and -q 4.99?
Now, I know that the difference between them is ONLY that a lossy channel
coupling is used at 4.99 and that lossless channel coupling is used at 5.
So my question is: How good is the channel coupling in 4.99? Can

New Sound Card, Sox Weirdness, Low Pitch ogg's
I recorded some live stuff with a new sound card (which defaults to
48000kHz) and because I didn't set sox right (-t wav wasn't also forced to
44100), I have an ogg that think's it's longer than it really is, and is
therefore too low and slow.
Is there a quick and dirty hex edit or something I can run it through to fix
that, other than decoding and encoding again?
Thanks,

Lost stonehenge.ogg
Back in 2001 Patrick Godeau posted to this list a link to an awesome track
called stonehenge. A bunch of us here downloaded it. Somehow I managed
to hose my copy and was wondering if anyone on this list still has it
around and could post a link or email it to me? I absolutely love that
track and I can't even see where I could purchase it... as far as I know
it's a one of a kind gem,

Non-destructive channel reversal
I'd like to know if there's a way to non-destructively reverse L-R channels
in an ogg vorbis file?
I've been recording live classical sources, but until tonight haven't
listened to them on anything with even approaching decent stereo separation.
Well, you guessed it. Why the hell are the violins on the right and the
brass on the left? Checked my equipment and sure enough, cable

Realtime resampling/encoding with oggenc
Don't know if anybody is still missing the lame oggenc features for
resampling, lowpass/highpass filters etc, but I wrote a little script that
uses sox to do all the stuff I need to real-time encode oggenc from the
radio, or any input device.
#!/bin/bash

DESTIN=/video/music/perftoday
