Hello, I have two vectors x1 and x2 both in increasing order. I want to select the x1[j]th entry which is the max min of the x2[i]th entry. I can do this using if and for statements but is there a quick way to do it without running a loop? Thank you in advance, Pantelis

sampling vectors
Hello Listers, I am trying to sample a vector to create a new one of sample length, witha sum equal to the sum of the initial vector: initial = 10, 30, 10 (sum=50) sample example = 5, 35, 10 (sum=50) or 25, 15, 10 (sum=50), etc ... My problem is to control the sum, so it stays constant. Any suggestions would be very helpful ! Thank you in advance, Eric

It seems obvious to me that taking the per second average and multiplying it by some kind of seat of the pants number must give a decent idea? WHat is that magic number? Thanks in advance for any ideas. /r

I would really just like to keep varying the penalty parameter 'lambda' of a Hodrick-Prescott filter until I get a 'smooth enough' series, but an archive search suggests that if I ask for this, some smarty pants will reply saying that the HP filter is just the smooth.spline function applied with a particular choice of lambda and equally spaced observations. ____________________________________________________________ Receive Notifications of Incoming Messages Easily monitor multiple email accounts &...

I took me a while to click that ZAPTEL now equals Dahdi, but now I'm there I have an issue with the a X100 clone card that I have been told *not* to mention as I'm guaranteed a hostile response :-< So, I've put on my flameproof pants to ask a simple question: dahdi show status gives a red alarm. I'm guessing this means the card is unable to detect the battery. I've plugged a test but into the loop through on the card, dialtone is there. I've tried reversing the polarity, two way/three way jack leads (I'm in th...

[LLVMdev] The performance of LLVM vs GCC
...nts: (1) The smallpt benchmark uses openmp which dragonegg supports but clang does not. That's why on the machines with N processors the clang compiled binary takes N times as long as the others: it is only using one processor unlike the others. (2) On the Himeno benchmark dragonegg beats the pants off everyone else. But the benchmark was compiled at -O0 (no optimization!) so this is of no interest. (3) GraphicsMagick also uses openmp, see point (1). Ciao, Duncan.

You can implement whatever type of security you are comfortable with, however, best practices is to have layered security, also known as the "belt and suspenders" method of keeping your pants up. A perimeter firewall and local firewalls (iptables usually) on each machine is the minimum level of security I set up. A perimeter firewall alone does not protect you from an attacker who is able to compromise one machine and install a scanner which then scan all the systems on your inte...
