[PATCH] ext3: commit superblock before panicking
Hi,
I have a problem with errors=panic on ext3. When a panic occurs, the
error event is not recorded anywhere. So after the reboot, e2fsck
doesn't kick in, the file system gets mounted again and the box panics
again...
Patch below moves the ERRORS_PANIC test down a bit so the journal is
aborted before panic() is called.

Latest CentOS does not boot, Proliant ML330 G6
Hello all.
I just upgraded to the latest and tried to reboot: kernel panic and dead as a brick.
Luckily GRUB still works and booting the to the next option in boot menu succeeds.
How can this be? This OS is assumed to be solid as a brick :)

9.2-RC4 amd64 panic: vm_page_unwire
...panics (all vm_page_unwire) on one
of those systems only (amd64 server) during the past week.
The first two panics were triggered when shutting down the ntpd daemon
(a recent development snapshot version of ntpd: 4.2.7p387). Exiting a
later release (p388) has not triggered the panic. The system panicked
again overnight, this time while acting as an sftp server receiving
large (GB) files from another system.

It's hard to diagnose if the only thing you say is that it panicked.
If it's panicking because it can't find the root disk, then that's a
completely different issue than it panicking when it loads a
particular driver.

should i (theoretically) be able to boot a "git clone"d kernel on 5.5?
...kernel. since it was getting close to end of day, i
wanted to keep it simple and directed them to just "make defconfig" to
see what would happen.
the configuration and build of the kernel and modules worked fine,
they installed the kernel and modules, then rebooted but the new
kernel panicked almost immediately, apparently whining that it
couldn't mount the root filesystem. since they were all running
LVM-based systems, i assumed that perhaps we needed to explicitly add
LVM support during the config step.

Edit grub's entry and add "noreboot" to your xen parameters, maybe when the
kernel panicks xen detects it and automatically reboots it.

Migration from VMWare to HP Blade

the partition on /mnt/transfer etc
Ran rsync to copy all the data from one to the other - except /boot and
/lib/modules
Brought the blade up, and saw that it booted fine.
However, a new kernel has been released and we tried rebooting... And it
panicked. It seems to be LVM related, in that it can't mount /dev/root - and
I've tried manually running mkinitrd to regenerate the initrd to no avail.
I was just wondering if anyone had encountered similar problems, and knew of
any solutions?

It'd probably help if you could give us more details on the kernel
panic.

Pascal, "dclist", thanks!!
I've restarted Dovecot, and, I think it's OK now
sorry, I've panicked as googling turned multiple iphone/certs issue, and,
rather than properly testing first, I stupidly panicked...
thanks for explanation, thanks for testing!!
so, basically, after each renewal of server's cert I should remember to
reload Dovecot (and maybe Postfix too?)
thanks again,

Intel based Mac and CentOS scores a win!
Interesting article on multi-booting the developer Intel based Mac with MacOS,
WinXP and you guessed it: CentOS! Way to go, especially since Fedora kernel

PSTN Connection
Hi
Which is the best interface card to connect PSTN line with
Asterisk. Can somebody please help. My intention is to route the
incoming PSTN calls to internal IP Phones through Asterisk and Vice
versa. The Asterisk is in LAN and is reachable from all the IP phones in
the LAN.
Thanks

Mounting a LVM partition from a linux live cd
I'm running CentOS 5.2, it uses LVM to manage the disks and we had a
programmer do something (not sure what) then reboot the system. When it
came up it kernel panicked. Luckily it's not production, it was their
sandbox. But they didn't backup any of their files. I know the disks are
fine because I was able to boot from a linux live cd and mount the /boot
partition from the sda drive, and the sdb drive that has the mysql database
mounted at /var/lib/mys...

How can I go about diagnosing the problem here?

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
...l (sorry if I
misinterpreted your point). I disagree: embedded system of RAID card and
RAID function they have to fulfill are much simpler than everything
involved into software RAID. Therefore, with the same effort invested,
firmware of (good) hardware is less buggy. And again, Linux kernel can be
panicked more likely than trivial embedded system of hardware RAID
card/box. At least my experience over decade and a half confirms that.
I have heard horror stories from people who used the same good hardware I
mentioned (3ware). However, when I went in each case deep into detail I
discovered that they ju...

[LLVMdev] AliasAnalysis as a Loadable Module, Possible 2.6->2.7 issue
Thanks for the response, Eli.
The header suggestion could certainly cause this issue (I panicked for
a second), but unfortunately as far as I can tell the headers are in
fact from LLVM 2.7.
The pass is built as a project configured by llvm, so hopefully that
would make things right, but also:
--include paths look legit (make VERBOSE=1, etc)
--strace on the build process for the project confir...

With RAID-Z2 under load, machine stops responding to local or remote login
Hi world,
I have a 10-disk RAID-Z2 system with 4 GB of DDR2 RAM and a 3 GHz Core 2 Duo.
It''s exporting ~280 filesystems over NFS to about half a dozen machines.
Under some loads (in particular, any attempts to rsync between another
machine and this one over SSH), the machine''s load average sometimes
goes insane (27+), and it appears to all be in kernel-land (as nothing
