Samba Connect problems
Thanks in advance for reading this slightly long post. I checked the
comp.protocols.smb archives along with the web site for info and was
unsuccessful. All help and information is greatly appreciated.
We are using Samba (1.9.17p3) for access to our Clearcase VOBS which are
stored on a UNIX box (I'm aware this is supposedly not supported, but it
has been working great up until these problems

Need a Centos 6 USB hard drive recovery procedure
My 15GB backup USB drive somehow got "corrupted" such that
a "chkdsk /f E:" on WinXP removed the file allocation table
(or whatever) making the NTFS drive appear empty.
I tried Windows Recuva freeware to recover the files, and
it has been working for 24 hours; but it has dumped about
65,000 files into a separate flat Windows directory.

Get your SXCE on ZFS here!
With the release of the Nevada build 90 binaries, it is now possible to install SXCE directly onto a ZFS root filesystem, and also put ZFS swap onto a ZFS filesystem without worrying about having it deadlock. ZFS now also supports crash dumps!
To install SXCE to a ZFS root, simply use the text-based installer, after choosing "Solaris Express" from the boot menu on the DVD.

ZFS-Performance: Raid-Z vs. Raid5/6 vs. mirrored
Hi list,
as this matter pops up every now and then in posts on this list I just
want to clarify that the real performance of RaidZ (in its current
implementation) is NOT anything that follows from raidz-style data
efficient redundancy or the copy-on-write design used in ZFS.
In a M-Way mirrored setup of N disks you get the write performance of
the worst disk and a read performance that is

CF to SATA adapters for boot device
Has anyone here had any luck using a CF to SATA adapter?
I''ve just tried an Addonics ADSACFW CF to SATA adaptor with an 8GB card that I wanted to use for a boot pool and even though the BIOS reports the disk, Solaris B95 (or the installer) doesn''t see it.
I might give the IDE version a go (I really wanted hoT-plug), otherwise I''ll be able to store a couple of thousand

Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the
AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several
mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering
about them.
One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI
controllers are PCI-E.
Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the
