About clustering techniques
...I wanna try annual and monthy analysis.
I first tried kmeans but found a problem with missing values. When trying
without omitting missing values kmeans gives an error and when excluding
invalid data too many values are excluded in some years of the data series.
Now I have been reading about pam, pamk and clara, I think they can handle
missing values. But can't find out the way to perform the analysis with
these functions. As I'm not an statistics nor an R expert the fpc or cluster
package documentation is not enough for me. If you know about a website or a
tutorial explaining the way to...

Cluster analysis, factor variables, large data set
...nths, there are 8
different variable values (e.g. Full-time Employment, Student,...)
Only cases with at least one change in labour market status is
included in the data set.
To analyse sub sets of the data, I have used daisy in the
cluster-package to create a distance matrix and then used pam (or pamk
in the fpc-package), to get a k-medoids cluster-solution. Now I want
to analyse the whole set.
clara is said to cope with large data sets, but the first step in the
cluster analysis, the creation of the distance matrix must be done by
another function since clara only works with numeric data.
Is...

How does clusplot exactly make use of cmdscale?
Dear people,
I used clusplot to plot a partition result. The partition result was from
pamk with a distance object as input. Then I applied cmdscale on the same
distance object for coordinates to make another scatterplot.
My problem is this: the coordinates from the cmdscale calculation, though
with the same shape, were different in scale and rotation from the scatter
plot yielded by clu...
