samba-tng-alpha-2.1.tar.gz
.../samba.org/pub/samba/alpha and all mirror sites. plenty of alpha releases have got to be good for the soul. - fixed security = domain. i had some nice recursion problems, i love filling up my process table with samrd and lsarpcd calling each other (...only kidding). - fixed up netlogond so that pam_ntdom can contact it on a domain loopback _even_ for domain logons, and netlogond will notice, oh wow, this is not my domain, and find and call out to the real domain controller -- this is now netlogond's job, not pam_ntdom's. hey presto, no configuration of pam_ntdom required, whatsoever. - wi...

Samba as a member of a NT domain - questions
...e PDC with authentication requests. So coming in through the MS network I guess I only need to put in an 'Add user Script'. But when I do that. I think that they cannot log in via FTP or telnet (because the passwords are on the PDC, and not in linux) The solution I thought of was installing PAM_NTdom, to let linux authenticate users via and PDC as wel. That way all of my users are registered on the PDC. Whenever someone goes to the Linux machine (either through samba, or direct) the machine asks the PDC. But it didn't work, because I think that SuSE does not support PAM modules? Does anyone...

samba-tng-alpha-2.2.tar.gz
...ns = yes - a reminder that in this version of TNG, smbd, spoolssd and nmbd are now up-to-date from cvs main. oh, and they work. we _have_ had one report of a coredump from smbd for an oplock issue [REALLY important to track this down, people!] - i am also impressed (even though i wrote it) that pam_ntdom actually works. just for fun, i added an account named DOMAIN\administrator to /etc/passwd yesterday, and was stunned to find that it actually worked. i typed in DOMAIN\administrator, and password of test, and got a login prompt. in combination with winbindd, this is going to be great. it'...

locked out of NT Domain
Hello, our sysop's asked me to forward this: Hi everybody, maybe someone can give me a solution to the following problem (get rid of NT unfortunately is no solution). Our net environment contains NT4SP5 and SAMBA servers. Workstations run NT4SP3 and SP5. Part of our password policy is to change passwords every thirty days, and lock the user account after ten unvalid logon attempts. Lately,

changing smb passwords from non smb machines
...eatures. however the other direction is proving to be a problem. I can rig pam to update both passwords with pam_ldap and pam_smbpass on machines that run samba. On some machines I don't want to run samba but i still want to provide passwd updates. I've considered and rejected pam_smb and pam_ntdom since they don't seem to have the password updating features (just auth features). I'd rather have the samba stuff updated by an exop on the ldap server but i don't think that is possible since the ldap server would have to know how to generate NT and LM hashes Is there anybody else...

PAM/winbindd/smb_pass/pam_smb_auth/smb_ntdom to authenticate SSH
..., because they've already done so with the PDC via their Windows box. Is there a way to set up PAM so that authenticated Windows users who ssh into the Linux box don't need to type a password? (This will make using CVS much easier) I have looked at winbind, pam_smb_pass, pam_smb_auth and pam_ntdom but can't seem to find any clearcut answer to this question. Any help you could give me would be most appreciated. Regards, Mitch. -- mailto:mjd@alphalink.com.au

PAM authentication to Active Directory
...googled around and everything I found, wheter it is forum posts or howtos, it always talks about winbind and joining the linux machine to the windows domain. I do not which to do this, I only want to get PAM to authenticate with the AD and then everything else is local. Should I use pam_winbind ? pam_ntdom ? Some help/hints would be greatly appreciated. Linux passwd authentication through NT
Hello, I would like to authenticate Linux' logins by asking a local NT server whether the supplied login id and the corresponding password match. Is there a way to do this ? I.e. is there a PAM module or any other utility that would allow me to do this from a script ? (i.e. a script like $ correct_NT_passwd _supplied_username_ _supplied_passwd_ that would return 0 if they match

PAM support (retracted)

Differences between Samba-related PAM modules
Several different PAM modules relating to Samba exist. The ones I could find were as follows: pam_smb http://www.csn.ul.ie/~airlied/pam_smb/ Authenticates against an NT domain controller, without joining the domain. (Doesn't work with Active Directory.) pam_ntdom http://www.cb1.com/~lkcl/pam-ntdom/ Based on the above, authenticates against an NT domain. Requires the client to be added to the domain using Server Manager. No longer maintained, superseded by winbind. pam_smbpass part of the official Samba distribution Authenticates against the local smbpass...

"because you dance to disco and you don't like rock" [Win2000 vs Samba/Linux]
Hey, so i finally got it working thanks to your list (found the right place for EnablePlainTextPassword here, the existing 3-4 matches in the default registry don't seem to do a thing). It was all brilliant. I got connected to all my 4 samba servers. I was happy... 'til the next boot (you know, during installation of system, boots happen). Now it connects to 3 sambas (1 on FreeBSD, 1 on

Using CentOS 5 as server; best way to setup NFSv4?
I've got a server running CentOS 5.2 and has a working NFSv4 server. I've been looking for some help on this on the net, but haven't come across anything that looks like it would pertain to my situation. Basically, I've got a mixed distro environment (CentOS, Fedora, openSuSE, Ubuntu, Puppy, and yikes possibly a Windows box) on various desktops and laptops that I want to connect

PAM, PDC and Winbind
...own domain - some trickery there; and get wbinfo to display the correct list of users and groups - which means that winbind is attaching itself to the PDC correctly). It won't, however, do password authentication and changes correctly. Any ideas? Advice? I had run into pam_smb (pam_domain? pam_ntdom?) earlier, which supposedly could do this for me, but IIRC it wasn't being maintained, and it was pretty buggy. Best Diego PS/ If you want copy of my configs, let me know and I'll e-mail them to you directly.

How to switch from NT to Samba transparently?
Hi, I want to switch from our Windows NT server ( which works as our PDC ) to Linux - Samba. Could you advice a step-by-step guide about this process, or is that possible, at all? Can I use Samba as a BDC, convert the user DB and than promote it to PDC? Thanks in advance! Regards; Istvan
