Delaying table attribute load using ActiveRecord
...thods. This behavior is just fine in 99.9% of the time, but considering BLOB data is not small, it is considerably slowing down search access :(. So basically, I thought about building a :has_one relationship and add an extra table table holding BLOB value so as to cope with the pb. I found it painfull and not very ''RoRy'', so I decided to hack ActiveRecord::Base so as to delay the attribute load... and it works. Attributes are dynamicaly loaded whenever client application accesses them explicitely. Syntax looks like the following: class A < ActiveRecord::Base delay_att...

Linux server & client in Win2k3 AD domain
...gin and access files. I tried this both from the Win2k3 AD machine and from my XP desktop. Windows client says the user/password is wrong. In the /var/log/samba/<machine> logfile i get: [2005/01/29 15:21:48, 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:reply_spnego_kerberos(173) Failed to verify incoming ticket! Painfull as it is I have to admit I don't know enough to get any further. Please advice!! -- / Jonas 'Linux, because reboots are for HW upgrade' still applies.. ... but now with the addition " or Windows update". * sigh *

Feature request FLAC
...) to do the job. b) Convert to mono: I encode a lot of audio books from CD. While in reality they are only mono (one person reading) the are transferred as stereo from the CD. Converting them to mono greatly increases overall compression. Currently I have to use SoX for conversion which is slow and painfull. Better would be to have an option in FLAC to skip one channel and encode the other channel as mono (as seen in LAME) 2. Develop DLL for EAC I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) for CD ripping. It would be great to have an DLL (as in Monkeysaudio) to directly rip to FLAC and not have a WAV-file as interme...

Samba AD DC migration and official packages
...to Samba4 but my question is about packaging. For now there is not a v4.0 stable Samba package in Debian Wheezy, and I don't want install a rc version. I can compile and install Samba 4 in Debian, but what about a future migration to official and stable packages provided by Debian? How painfull would it be such a migration? Can someone confirm what archives does contain the essential domain data (Kerberos, LDAP, DNS, etc) to migrate in the future to a packaged Samba AD DC? Any answer or suggestion is welcome Thanks, Federico PD: Sorry for my basic English

[LLVMdev] Files to lib/System/Win32
...me these seemed to be very hardcore and very Cygwin specific. Personally, I don't like cygwin, mainly because of the automatic and self-composed package/installation procedure/program and my experinces with cygwin was, that if you don't have directly internet access, it's really a painfull process to download, install and upgrade. And at that time when I started at this project, my access to the internet was only a 56k buad dial-up connection through my private ISP. However, through my job I had access to download a complete selfcontained installation of Microsoft's/Interop...

Blank printers names while browsing remote printers from windows
Hi friends. This morning waking up is painfull. We've got a great CUPS+Samba+Winbind print server sharing 30+ printers to our windows clients. Until this morning no issue, used on production for a couple of weeks. Today, the printer shares became unbrowsable from windows. We can see the printers names from samba share : "\printse...

GFX Passthrough
Hi List, many People seem to be interested in the Graphic-Card Passthrough Feature (for more or less obvious reasons). Official Support is still under development, and i hope not to interfere with it in any (bad) way ... But i remember my own painfull and timeconsuming research when i wanted this feature to work, so i thought perhaps this spares some time for the unpatient users like me :) So here is what i did to enable Passthrough of my Secondary PCIE Graphic-Card which is a NVIDIA GT200; Key thing seems to be the Patches 1 to 4 (Patch #5...

Domain-member and simple read and readwrite file-permissions based on group-membership
...hat only unix-users and unix-groups are possible? Is there any way to use the ReadOnlyGroup and WriteOnlyGroup from the Active-Directory? If only unix-groups are possible I although have to replicate the group-memberships to the unix-system. Is this correct? When this is correct, this is pretty painfull because I've to administrate 2 userdatabases now. 3) Is this simple setup only possible with acl's on the filesystem and with running winbindd? Thank you for answers Christian

ESFQ Modification
...ce seemed that there will be no problems. But then I realized that P2P users are smart enough to bypass limits as sfq doesn''t give fair sharing in this case (thousands of connections from one user versus few from the other). I tried IMQ but it''s instability in my configuration was painfull. So I made something like that: 1. i use IPMARK patch for the iptables to mark all the connections in P2P related class depending on source IP (i use SNAT), 2. modified ESFQ to create hash depending on FWMARK instead of src ip 3. and it worked. So I have uplink policy based on source ip in s...

Server crashed using rsync
I'm trying to make a backup using this command rsync -auvH /home/ /bak --delete --bwlimit=1000 --status server load has been increased so much and the server crashed, as well has gone out of memory My Server is a Dual Xeon 2.0 GHz with 2GB of Memory + 1GB Swap. Could be that there are too many files, about 5.000.000, to be backed up ? The way the files are structured make very

removing string restrictions
We've previously discussed if we should add some sort of selection option type and not use string options and string restrictions for that purpose. I don't think we need a new option type for this. The integer type should do just fine. The attached patch changes the blur plugin's filter option from string to integer type and adds the relevant metadata. I suggest that we change all

When will nouveau kernel tree be merged into master
...d found it was not merged. So my question are: - Why not purely delete nouveau files from linux-core and issue error messages? - When will nouveau in kernel git tree be merged? I know the merge windows is closed but that usually does not hold for new drivers Thanks. Using nouveau is quite painfull. Please be aware that as distribution move too slowly into nominal nouveau driver support, I'm not probably the only guy lost in the dust. -- eric

...one. If I ask a question than its because I want to get my work done and not to test the mailing list participants. This may make the workload smaller and may encourage less experienced R user to try to give answers. Not to take a questions as an EXAMINATION situation can make it also less aching or painfull if the question are not as precise as "wished". By changing this attitude of examiner, student, many of the points in this guide will be superfluous! Why the guide does NOT mention in one word that posting questions on the mailing list has also some DISADVANTAGES? e.g. Answers written in...

diskless windows
Hi. I wanted to set diskless win95 but I read the list archives and I decided not to do it diskless. So I tried diskless windows but I got a problem. I do this. 1.- I did booting images with bootware proms. 2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull because the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT server anyway after memmaker I get only 420 ks free, any help in this point would be gratefully appreciated. I tried to follow the docs I found in the samba site. 3.- I install...

Selecting the shared printer within ms-word takes ~3 seconds. I know it's not a huge delay, but it makes the samba experience rather sluggish and painfull.
