Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
Hi I am currently using Samba 3.0.11 and Cups 1.1.23 with Windows PostScript drivers and manufacturer PPDs on WinXP clients. When I print multiples copies of a document from a Windows XP box, the number of copies appearing in the Cups "page_log" file always takes the "1" value but the printer prints the correct number of copies. When I do the same on Linux (with the lpr command), the number of copies appearing in the log is correct. When I take a look in the "error_log" file, I see the following line : StartJ...

Samba and Cups - number of copies
Hi all... I need some docs about how to intergrate cups with samba... I have install samba 3.2.5 and cups 1.3.8 on Debian Lenny system. I have install a printer ( Ricoh Aficio 3245C PS ) and have work fine... But when I follow the job on /var/log/cups/page_log, I always see that number of copies is 1, doesn't matter if the jobs has 5 or 10 pages... It's always show 1 on page_log... I need to know why this happen and if this is a samba or cups problem... Somebody can help me? Thanks -- Gilberto Nunes Ferreira *Suporte T.I.* *Selbetti Gest?o de...

Page_log with number of pages prtinted wrong
The Adobe drivers (on request of the printer PPD associated with them) often put a PJL header in front of the main PostScript part of the print file. Thus, the printfile starts with <1B >%-12345X or <escape>%-12345X instead of %!PS). This leads to the CUPS daemon auto-typing the incoming file as a print-ready file, not initiating a pass through the pstops filter (to speak more

cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server. The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the same domain but from trusted domains. Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new versions of cups and samba. Samba/CUPS printing again
...prompt from the server box itself. However, when anything is sent from windows, it never prints. There's no record of it ever reaching the que. I'm not sure where to look for info. it's acting like the windows machine are not sending the print files to the Cups que. It never hits the page_log as a job. When I look at the properties of the printer, the samba printer port is not checked. When I check it and hit apply, it tells "Printer settings could not be saved. Access denied" My network username is part of the root group, and I've set the printer admin and domain admin...

Print quota still not working
...d to account page printing correctly. But, I have not been able to get quotas to work based to page-count (job-page-limit), although it works with job-k-limit option. I read that CUPS does not count pages correctly if printing in "raw" format and hence logs "1" for every job in page_log. Till few days back, I had pages being logged in /var/log/cups/page_log, but now it doesn't seem to log anything in there. Can anyone suggest anything? Shanti

client ip no longer listed in cups page log
...ith cups 1.1.20 to serve printing to XP clients. samba and cups originally sat on the same debian machine. Due to load issues, we've moved cups to a separate debian machine and added the 'cups server =' directive to smb.conf. After this, the XP client IP is no longer listed in cups page_log, the samba server IP is listed instead. We need this information for print accounting. Any ideas? regards, Ryan

This means: the file will *always* be auto-typed as MIME type "application/postscript" and will go through the "pstops" filter, thusly putting the right accounting figures into the CUPS "page_log" file. Previously the "JCL" commands from some drivers made the file look like an "application/cups.vnd-postscript" MIME type (as it is output by "pstops") and therefor created only the dummy entry of "1" page into the page_log. Other than that, I can...

Printing: most printers work, one doesn't?
...#39;Ready' as the printer status. When I try to print something from a W2K machine, Windows seems to think everything is fine, but the job never comes out. No error messages appear on the Windows machines, but nothing ever happens. None of the log files (/var/log/samba/log.smbd, /var/log/cups/page_log, /var/log/cups/error_log) show anything related to the job. It's like the job disappears. But at the same time, all my other printers (the previously configured ones) work just fine from Windows. The FAQ and other documents mention a variety of permission issues relating to the spool directo...
