facter 1.6.18 tarball has a dangerous mac preflight script
The facter 1.6.18 tarball has many issues. First, the
ext/osx/createpackage.sh script still uses packagemaker, which is
deprecated. And even if it used that, there are a few references to files
in the now-deleted conf/osx/ directory.
So it''s pretty difficult to create a Mac pkg from this, but after some
tweaking of the createpackage.sh script, I managed to do it! I ran the
package it created, a...

Mac OS X installer: missing files fix
I've paraphrased the OS X installer developer's comments: there's a bug in
Installer that is preventing the archive from working right. Below is the
fix for the problem.
First (obviously) run the installer. Since the executables are in the
archive.pax.gz file in the installer package, first do a "show package
contents" on the package file, then unstuff the enclosed

with folks on the list if the Icecast folks don't mind. If t...

The "Nicecast" software for OSX http://www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast
comes with icecast and its prerequisites built in, and starts
broadcasting at a single click, with no installation/config required.

an OS X installer
Now that I've got the recent build of Icecast running (thanks
everyone), I'm wondering about an OS X installer. Icecast would be even
more palatable to the less-techy OSX users if there were an installer
for the binary. As long as the installer checked for the dependent
libs, everything would be straight forward.

rails is extremely hard to install
I''m on Mac OSX and I''m about to rip my hair out over how hard it is to
install rails. I''ve installed rubygems and am typing "ruby setup.rb" in
the command line and get "No such file or directory."
I''ve never had to use command lines before so this is alien to me. Can''t
they just make installation GUI-based for non-geeks like
