Hi, I'm trying to use gnome PackageKit (gpk-application) on a centos 6 x86_64 system. When I am sitting at the machine it works ok, but most of the time I am accessing that C6 system via ssh from my centos 5 desktop. I did post to ovirt-devel but I am not a registered user, so a moderator need to review my posting before it becomes available. I will register, but right now I only have a few seconds to spare. Periodically I find the yumBackend python script of packagekit really slows down my CentOS 7 system. I don't invoke anything myself which starts it and I find nothing in crontab which does either, except perhaps /etc/cron.hourly/0yum-hourly.cron. But I can't be sure that is the culprit. A window keeps popping up on my remote desktop stating "authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages. An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action" and asking for the root password. I consider these situation VERY DANGEROUS, because a normal user should not be able to apply updates * what daemon controls automatic updates? pakagekit? What RPM? gnome-packagekit-updater?
