loadings matrices in plsr vs pcr in pls pacakage
Dear list, I have a question concerning the above mentioned methods in the pls package with respect to the loadings matrix produced by the call. In some work I am doing I have found that the values produced are nearly of the same magnitude but of opposite sign. When I use the example data (sensory) I find this result reproduced. I am prepared to work this through but I have a feeling that

Normal deviate generation - Marsaglia's ziggurat method
Hi: I was wondering why Marsaglia's new ziggurat method for generating deviates from the standard normal distribution has not been implemented in the R base package. I know that it is available in SuppDists pacakage of Bob Wheeler, as "rziggurat". According my timing tests, it is about 6 to 7 times faster (on a Pentium 2.4 MHz) machine than the default Inversion method used in R base package. thanks, Ravi.

Dear R helpers,   I have a data of 2102 observations (consisting of 0's also), to which I am trying to fit Normal distribution using "lmom" pacakage. If I use Excel, its easy to estimate the parameters of Normal distribution as simple mean and standard devaition. The results I get if I use teh excel are as   Parameters of Normal distribution :-   Mean = 22986.44 and standard deviation = 223452.88   However, if I use the R code using the lmom...

Hep for creating a package
...of SSH/OpenSSH are in different direcotries like /usr/local/bin /usr/local/sbin /usr/local/libexec /usr/local/man /usr/local/etc Is there anyway i can make package replacing the binaries, man pages and also it has to check in the /usr/local/etc directory while doing the pacakage add (pkgadd), if the configuration files and key files exists in /usr/local/etc directory it shouldn't replace the files. Only it should copy the files if there is any files missing in /usr/local/etc directory while doing pkgadd. After doing the pkgadd i want append few things to m...

OT: Local Mirror problems, wrong paths to RPMs with yum update
This week I set up a local mirror for a few dists, including Centos 4.0 and 4.2, and Fedora Core 3 and 4. I'm using a script called yum-pull. For the most part I really like the script, it automates the setup of your mirrors and tries a bunch of different mirrors when it goes out to get updates, if it fails on one it tries another. It uses the usual suspects, createrepo and repoview, among

Segmentation faults on SEXP conversion
...egmentation fault occurs whether I try passing either the `int` or `character` or both (as in the above). I have not tried other types. However, I have attempted various type conversions in the Rdefines.h header, but cannot avoid the segmentation fault. This is the only code in the proof-of-concept pacakage (aside from useDynLoad related registration structures and the R_init_??? call). I have a feeling it is something simple, but I am not well versed in R package development at this point. Please let me know if other information is helpful. I am running Linux 2.6.27.30-170.2.82.fc10.x86_64 with R...

I never made any assumption athat anyone had any obligation to do anything
I just asked a question. If I was too vague, then i am sorry. I dont expect anyone to help me, but I thought that it was ok to put the question out there in case someone wanted to help me. I didnt expect abject hostility for it. Human decency was the only thing I did expect. If my question was a pain, badly formatted, or too juvinile, then i have no problem being ignored.I asked a question

xl stack problems on CentOS6 XEN4
...got DomUs with CentOS6 and CentOS 5 PV up and running with drbd-disk-backend (primary/secondary mode). > > But now I am stuck at the problem that pygrub does not seem to know about drbd-devices. I've never used drbd myself, but poking around a little bit, it seems that the SLES has drbd pacakages, one of which includes block scripts for Xen (drbd-xen). Looking at CentOS 6, I don't immediately see any drbd packages. Are you using the packages from elrepo, perhaps? In particular, do you have the Xen block scripts in /etc/xen/scripts/block-drbd? -George -------------- next part ---...

CentOS, RHEL, all versions. Suppose I am upgrading a package foo-1.0 to foo-2.0 (assume foo is not relocatable), and both packages have %preun sections in their .spec files. It appears that foo-1.0's %preun is run after foo-2.0 has been installed. So what happens if foo-1.0 needs to run a binary that was provided as part of foo-1.0 during its %preun stage, and a binary of the same name is
