lmer multilevel
My question relates to problems that I'm having matching lme and lmer

lme syntax for P&B examples
Hi helpeRs,
I've been working through some examples in Pinhiero & Bates( 2000)
trying to understand how to translate to the new Lme4 syntax but without
much luck.
Below is what I think I should do, but either the answers don't come out
the same or I get errors.
In the Oxide problems I'm particularly interested in obtaining the
levels coeficients but this options no longer seems to be available in
lme4. How can levels infor be obtained in lme4?
If someone can recreate the examples below in lme4 syntax so I can
follow what is happening in the text I'd be grate...

Lmer BLUPS: was(lmer multilevel)
...is the value that is not being added in to the
coefficients in lmer() and this accounts for the difference. So, these
need to be added in for now.
I hope this helps,

Install shield error 5006 : 0x8000ffff
Hi
I am running Arch x64.
I have installed Il2-1946which works perfectly. There are some mods I would like to add but cannot install.
When I run 'wine setup.exe' for the mod installer I get the error messages below and a dialogue box telling me that I have the error I reference in the title field.
All I've seen so far is that I should delete the installshield professional folder

multiple vhosts running off of one passenger/rails app
Hi,
I''ve been googling quite a bit - but up until now to no use :(
My problem is how to configure Apache conf (and perhaps Passenger) for
this setup to work:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName oxen.company_A.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/oxen/sites/company_A/public
PassengerAppRoot /var/www/html/oxen
SetEnv OXID 23

64-bit chess engines and wine 1.2
Hi,
an interesting new feature of wine 1.2 is it's 64-bit support. Many Windows chess engines gain about 50-80% speed increase when running at 64-bit. Most provide 32-bit and 64-bit engines. But on my 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 only an error message appears i.e. with the free Stockfish 1.8.

Well, it?s not ?a? disk: it?s a HW RAID of about dozen (server grade) drives, with a VG/LV on top of that. Are there any log files I can check that test the u...

Strange performance issue on CentOS 6.7 server
I?m running CentOS 6.7 on my build servers, and on one of the servers the builds are taking almost an order of magnitude longer than usual. There are no runaway processes and there is plenty of free memory. So I suspected that file I/O might be slow, and sure enough, that appears to be the case. I ran a simple dd test and compared the results to a ?normal? build server (412 MB/s vs. 31.7 MB/s).

asterisk 1.8 on Solaris/sparc
I've got the latest asterisk 1.8 running on a Netra X1 with Solaris 10 u10.
The system itself is happy and phone calls (between two parties) seem fine.
Unfortunately, when a caller listens to a Playback recording, there
seems to be moments of stutter - perhaps 1 second of stutter for every
10 seconds of Playback. The stutter is not consistent at the same point
of the playback file.

reading tables from url
I'm trying to read some web tables directly into R. These are both
genome sequencing projects (eukaryotes and metagenomes) from NCBI and
look very similar; however, only the first one works.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/leuks.cgi

I added ?dump=selected to the end of the url string to get a tab-
delimited file (which is what happens

A dying hard disk can do it. HDDs try to silently paper over I/O errors, but what they can?t hide is the time it takes to do this. If your HDD is constantly correcting errors at the oxide layer, it will be reeeeeallly sllllow.
You can try running SMART tests on it, though that?s not guaranteed to show the problem.
Got tested backups? :)

PlayOnline Viewer fails to complete installation
Hi there, folks. I've been trying to install the Vista/Windows 7 PlayOnline Viwer for FFXI and I've run into a problem; it fails to complete its install. It gets beyond the point where it extracts the POL/TetraMaster msi's however, it fails on the step right after. Here's the list of fixmes that it spits out when it bombs:

Lots of lost+found files ...
Hi,
I've recently had a spate of filesystem errors on my laptop which
is running a vanilla RedHat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.7) using the ext3
filesystem on all partitions.
I have been using the laptop with no apparent problems for some time
but last weekend, when I was trying to compile Evolution overnight,
I hit a compile problem; it complained that a Makefile didn't exist
in a script directory.

PBIB datataset
I'm looking at Pinheiro & Bates "Mixed-Effects Models in
S and S-PLUS" at the moment. Several datasets are used,
one of which is called "PBIB" (a partially balanced
incomplete block design).
All the other datasets can be found somewhere or other in R.
However, I cannot locate PBIB, and it does not seem to
be mentioned in the latest edition of the R Full Reference

lotus WordPro problem
Hello,
I'm using wine to run WordPro so I can convert some old *.lwp files to a
format I can deal with in Linux.
WordPro starts OK and I can load and read the file, but wine crashes
when I try to save as a MS Word file (tried Word 6.0 and win95, same result):

Problems with Final Fantasy XI Online - Japanese
Hello all,
I've been trying (and thus far failing) to get the Japanese version of FFXI working under wine. I have been playing FFXI here in Japan since the release, so I have the original Japanese 4-disc CD set, plus the extra CDs/DVDs for each different expansion.
I originally started with wine-1.3.8, and for the most part, the CD installs and POL/FFXI updates worked fine -- I was actually

New to Wine...and already in trouble...
Hi
I've installed Wine on my openSUSE 11.3 x64 box. I'm trying to install Sage Instant accounts but keep getting the Error 1628 message.
I've been searching most of the evening and trying the various fixes (run from command line, rename the InstallerShield folder etc) but to no avail.
Do I just need to accept that Sage Instant won't work and go back to the (slow) VirtualBox?
