determination of where a call is placed from (physical location)
...oing this that I have run across such as one party notification vs 2 party notification requirements which depend upon the physical endpoints of a call. If I wish to discretely record all incoming calls except those calling from a place requiring 2 party notification (thus avoiding the need for an overt announcement) How can I afirmatively determine the physical location of the party originating the call and thus the applicable legal jurisdiction. Problem installing R-devel dated 4 March 2016.
Thanks Peter. I tried running the uninstalled R; it worked. I checked on the existence of FAQ, etc. --- yep everything was there. I don't know about over-zealous virus checkers; I haven't overtly installed any such. So, mystified, I started all over again from scratch. This time it worked; seamlessly. Totally mysterious. Story of my life. Be that as it were, all systems are go now, and my package checking was successful. Sorry for the noise. cheers, Rolf -- Technical Editor A...

depending on orphaned packages?
Ah, I spoke too soon. I started putting the demo code into a test suite and ran one check with valgrind and ? sure enough ? there's def more issues (a cpl functions) than the overt/easy ones (and, I went back to the check results page and, also sure enough, they're there, too). They look to be fairly straightforward to resolve but it's going to take a bit longer than "this week", but I'm not rescinding the volunteering. -Bob > On Sep 29, 2019, at 17...

CentOS Based Fierwall Document
For those of you that either have an older revision of my firewall document, or are otherwise keeping track of it, there is a new version available. The current version of the document is version 3.1. It's changed rather significantly in some areas.

[LLVMdev] optimization assumes malloc return is non-null
...ng implementation of malloc() must modify at least one object in the sense of the standard. If I understand your position correctly, your justification for the optimization is that the C library standard does not say in so many words that malloc() modifies an object. I do not believe that any such overt statement is required in order for it to be clear that malloc() is stateful. The functional description of malloc() and free() clearly cannot be satisfied under the C abstract machine without mutation of at least one object. Also, I do not read 5.1.2.3 in the way that you do. Paragraph 2 defines &...

DC site replication issue ?
...showrepl' is indicative of trouble. The 'Inbound neighbors' list looks correct on both CH and NY DCs. The 'Outbound neighbors' list on both DCs shows 'Last attempt @ NTTIME(0) was successful'. I listed the full output at the bottom of this post. The logs don't have overt error messages, although I admit I don't understand everything that gets logged. I looked at levels 3, 5, and 10. I tested replication by adding a DNS entry, adding an account, then deleting the test account, and all that gets replicated to the other DC. So it seems to work fine. Also I used...

Linear mixed effects models
...ome NA. Following function call was used: dummy.lme <- lme(medlat ~ poly(Latency, degree = 2), data = dummy, + random = ~ Latency | Subject, na.action = na.omit) Questions: - Is this approach o.k., or have you lost all your hair already? - Can one of the lme-experts see if there's something overtly wrong with my lme-call (especially the fixed and random term) - I wanted to see how the fits look like for every individual. Using plot(dummy.lme), I thought this should yield a trellis plot, with each individual in a separate plot (and fitted line). However it didn't (it was just a big mess)...

./configure problems using --with-pam under Debian stable.
...I wind up with [...] checking whether struct passwd has pw_age... (cached) no checking for poptGetContext in -lpopt... (cached) no checking whether to use included popt... ./popt checking configure summary... configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config There don't appear to be any other overt errors, and this happens on two different XFS-enabled Debian boxes. When I configure on my unstable box, it seems to work fine. I really kind of need PAM support, but I also need XFS ACL support -- if I do a compile using --with-acl-support --with-pam on my unstable, will it run properly on my st...

Tcltk changes in R 1.8.0
...operations to C code. The basic tkcmd() function (which underlies almost everything else) has been changed to used those two functions. This should be mostly transparent to existing code, but it may break code that uses some (little advertised) features of the old interface. Apart from overt bugs, the only source of breakage that I am aware of is that a vector of length > 1 used to be converted to multiple arguments; now it becomes a single Tcl list object. The feature allowed you to do things like tkinsert(mylistbox, "end", vector.of.entries), but it got in...

Possible soundness issue with available_externally (split from "RFC: Add guard intrinsics")
...ets fixed tomorrow or two weeks from now is not a significant distinction. Every time I've pushed back on this the resulting discussion has been very productive (IMHO), and I'm glad I did. And, as I've stated, given that we do have solutions on the table that can fix the problem without overt performance regressions (i.e. aggressive privatization), we should prefer to use them unless they prove impractically complicated for short-term implementation. And I think this issue is worth a significant amount of discussion. Every C++ inline method, constructors, etc. all end up in comdat sec...

Problem with shadows and the new NVIDIA drivers
Hi all, I've been trying out the new NVIDIA drivers and everything seems to be working great except that shadows are rendered incorrectly - as solid black (or what ever the shadow colour happens to be) without the gradient effect. Setting the opacity level of the shadows makes no difference. This occurs with Beryl too, but I don't think it's actually a bug in either program but

Labeling charts within a loop
Hi All: This may turn out to be very simply, but I can't seem to add the name of the school to a chart. The loop I created is below that subsets a dataframe and creates a chart for each school based on certain variables. As it stands now, they title includes the school's ID number. Instead, I want to replace this with the school's actual name, which is stored in a variable called

Problem installing R-devel data 4 March 2016.
I am trying to install the latest development version of R so as to be able to perform a package check according the rules specified for CRAN. I performed the following steps: (1) Downloaded R-devel.tar.gz, dated 04-Mar-2016 03:21, from CRAN (2) Upacked. (3) Created directory "BldDir" next to the directory "R-devel". (4) Changed directories to BldDir. (5) Executed
