OT: android phone backup NOT to google cloud question
Dear All,
My apologies for OT question.
I wonder if someone of Android smartphone owners backs up their device
and user/application data NOT to google cloud.
I just had to get new smartphone, and discovered that short of rooting
device or unlocking bootloader and flashing one of "un-googled" android
builds I can not find the way to back up everything. To my storage, NOT

Best OS Choice for Rails server?
I am going for a dedicated hosted server for a rails app I am working
on, and have a choice from several different operating systems. I
excluded windows 2003 from the list because it has been giving RMagick
fits for me.
The app is Ruby 1.8.4, Rails 1.1.2, mySQL 5.0
The contestants are:
Red Hat Enterprise 3.0
Red Hat Enterprise 4.0
Debian
CentOS
FreeBSD
I''m leaning towards Debian,

Avaya 9640 Convert to SIP (slightly off topic)
Hi List,
Ive got a bunch of Avaya IP9640 that we want to convert to SIP and then hook
up to Asterisk so we can dump this overpriced Avaya system. Ive got ahold of
the SIP firmware, but I cannot find anything on how to convert the phone
itself to SIP, when I go into setup mode it wants a "command" which im
guessing is the program code like the rest of the Avaya systems works. Has

Child windows doesn't interact with mouse input.
Hi all, I'm quite new to Wine, but sofar I just LOVE it! It just blew me away how many essential windows-only apps now run under Linux.
I'm having one curious problem with a financial program (Exact Compact for Windows) I have to work with. It installs and it runs just perfect, except that the childwindows it generates (which are crucial) don't accept any click from the mouse. To make

so much for the markdown listserve grapevine...
it ends up that there has been a markdown-savvy

[OT] Shared hosting for Rails projects
To much of my dissapointment, the uptime on my TxD account does not
improve.
What alternatives do we have for hosting Rails projects on shared
accounts? I would love to keep lighttpd and the level of control I
have on TxD but wouldn''t like to spend much more (I am currently on
the 25$/month plan).
I won''t need much support, but I would love to have subversion

DID - Panama
I need a low monthly rate DID in Panama.
Maybe 2-3 inbound calls a day max. 1-2 outbound calls a day only.
Will be rarely used but needs to be very good quality and needs
longevity of business (eg this number is going into print so company
needs to be around for a while).
Please email with rates and details.
Cheers,
Dean

CentOS at FOSDEM
Hi all,
FOSDEM is coming and it would be nice if CentOS users and developers
are present.
FOSDEM will take place at 24 and 25 february 2007. (so mark those dates in
your calendar!)
I guess what we need is a wiki page about FOSDEM linked from some 'CentOS
events' page and then people can start planning and indicating who's
coming and what the topics could be.

Small PBX to VoIP transition questions
This is for a small business (restaurant and catering). We want to move
from POTS
to VoIP to save on the phone bill. Currently we use four lines for
voice + one fax going into a Lucent Partner system PBX.
Right now I'm considering two alternatives, both powered by * and a
SIP/IAX wholesaler (any recommendations on that for someone who can do

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article?
It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers
are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a
replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the
multipurpose firewall desktop machine.
Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how
advanced you can get with tc rules? For

no problem, host your own nextcloud and get the nextcloud app;
also no need of having the contacts and/or calendar at google ...

Nice review of Wine on frankw.livejournal.com
Some fellow in South Africa is blogging his move to Linux:
http://frankvw.livejournal.com/195867.html
An excerpt:
"There is a huge database of applications available that lists every
application that has been tested with Wine, and it tells you how well
(or badly) it runs. I'm amazed how many Windows applications will work
with Wine flawlessly. I remembered Wine from its early days when it

stream file not working but get data and exec background work
Hi
I have a strange problem.
I use the agi command stream file for my vertical services like *98
If the call comes from a sip phone with dtmfmode=inband in sip.conf then it
works.
But if I call the same script from an external line the stream file doesn't
work properly
The audio is played but the digits are not captured.
I tested with get data and it works

Re: Rosetta Stone
Here is my experience with Rosetta Stone:
I am SO unhappy with Rosetta Stone. I purchased a RS language program from a vendor who was using a fake licensing certificate and stolen credit cards to buy thousands of RS products and resell them. The guy is now in jail and was ordered to pay restitution to Rosetta Stone. I only found this out when I contacted them to get a deactivation code to

ATA type IAX unit ?
...noms, cisco 7960's etc...
4) Hardphone interfaces... eg, cisco ata186.
Now over the months/years all these different options have been
discussed.
-------------------------------------------------
For (3) we have seen an IAX load for the Snom's which personally left
me thinking it was an overpriceds solution as you lost the
"functionality" of the Snom, Now if the Snom had IAX as an option,
whilst still retaining the normal Smon functionality, that would be
nice and if the price was ok, saleable (when I saleable, I refer to
Australia as well as the world :-)

SIP to IAX?
Hi all!
I am looking for some software that would work as a proxy between a SIP
device (SIP phones and ATA boxes) and the Asterisk system running IAX. The
reason is that I can only get IAX trow the firewalls, and can't change the
settings.
One solution I am using are getting several Asterisk system communicate trow
IAX bout in this case would I rater have every persons computer act as a
proxy

FINALLY! a good book about Asterisk.
There is finally an introductory book about Asterisk!
It looks like Paul Mahler at www.signate.com wrote it
with a lot of help from Digium. I looked at the sample
pages, it looks great.

Atcom IP-4B ISDN IP PBX?
Hello
For customers who need a small IP PBX to handle up to four ISDN lines
(in France, so I guess that means EuroISDN) instead of a PC + Asterisk
and an ISDN gateway box, has someone already played with the Atcom
IP-4B?

Any feedback appreciated.
