Gelman 2006 half-Cauchy distribution
Hi, I am trying to recreate the right graph on page 524 of Gelman's 2006 paper "Prior distributions for variance parameters in hierarchical models" in Bayesian Analysis, 3, 515-533. I am only interested, however, in recreating the portion of the graph for the overlain prior density for the half-Cauchy with scale 25 and not the posterior distribution. However, when I try: curve(dcauchy, from=0, to=200, location=0, scale=25) the probabilities for the half-Cauchy values seem to approach zero almost immediately after 0 whereas in Gelman 2006 the tail appears mu...

End of whiskers of boxplots are repeated on PDF device (PR#10499)
Full_Name: Michael Toews Version: 2.61 OS: WinXP SP2 Submission from: (NULL) (142.58.206.114) Using boxplot on a PDF device with more than one group (or boxes) produces multiple (and overlain) 1st and 3rd quartile ticks. There are exactly the multiple of boxplot groups as there are of each 1st and 3rd quartile ticks for each boxplot (drawn as a horizontal line at the end of each boxplot), which is (groups^2)x2 tick marks in total drawn for the device region. For example, a device with...

Need a hint
R community: I have been creating code for plotting nomographs, or multiple, overlain contour plots of z-variables on a common x- and y- variable. My input has been a matrix with observed x, y, and multiple z variables; I then create a trend surface using trmat for each z-variable. So far so good. One application I have for these, requires shading a portion of the nomogram that m...
