"scratchy" sound on TE410P
asterisk 1.4.35
dahdi 2.3.0.1+2.3.0
one span on a 4port T1 card
Got complaints this morning that outbound and inbound calls were
"scratchy" and I made a few test calls. It kind of sounds like the gain
is too high somewhere, and the audio is overdriven. Is this a problem at
the carrier? I'm trying to call them now, but it's Sunday morning in the
sticks, and my chances of getting someone with a clue are slim to none.
I restarted dahdi but that had no effect.
I watched dahdi_tool as calls came in and out but there isn't really a l...

be nasty. Call comes in FXO, * calls my home via IAX2... times out so picks
up another FXO port and dials my cell. 7 times out of 10 it bridges just
fine, but about 30% of the time I will answer and whenever I talk on the cell
I get back a "buzz" (almost sounds like an overdriven dialtone) for the
length of time I talk.
e.g. if I say "Hello?" I hear that overdriven dialtone back at me about 0.5s
later for the duration that it takes me to say "Hello?" The louder I speak
the louder the return "buzz".
Nothing unusual in the log (I get the od...

Mono encoding w/ a stereo source.
...encoder and would
like some input.
I use SpacialAudio's SAM3 Broadcaster and am having problems with the
ogg encoder when I create a mono output stream. It seems as if the
signal level of the left and right sides are being combined before the
encoding process, leaving the sound muddy and overdriven. As such, if I
reduce the output level by 6db, the combined streams are at the right
level. The settings I'm using are Quality -1, 32kbps/44kHz.
SpacialAudio suggested that they are passing the audio info to the
library as required.
Ideas?

Liveice & Icecast...help
...n feed it from WinAMP on my PC and listen to the stream somewhere else and
it sounds fine. I know liveice is working too because Icecast shows that it
connects and is sending audio to it. However when I listen to the stream on
my PC with WinAMP it's aweful. It sounds like the audio is really
overdriven, very distorted, grinding noise. In fact I can't even hear
anything of the stream, just the grinding buzzing, and it is very loud. I'm
feeding to the line in on my sound card from a portable radio. I get the
same effect though whether the audio is plugged into the sound card or not.

RFC 2833 and SIP? DTMF? What am I not getting?
...voicemail system.
Even stranger to me, is the fact that from the phone connected to the
FXS on the wellgate I can hear tones(listening on a called line), but
they sound kind "rough" at the edges. From the AG168V I hear no
tones, but what seems to be "blown out" tones (ie overdriven volume).
From the IAX softphones I hear no tones at all just clicks!
Now I would have guessed that the FXO would be doing the conversion of
the RFC2833 to inband, so that I thought all the tones should sound the
same from any phone? Apparently this isn't the case at all.
Thanks to all o...

...hone out) and I can run the AD1836 audio codec on 48 kHz only, I cannot use my program now (because I use speex resampling...)
So I tried to do file I/O, but the described problem (that the encoder corrupts its input buffer) is gone in this configuration.
But nevertheless, when I try to encode an overdriven (saturated) signal, the strange toggling between -MAX and MAX values on a sample-by-sample basis still happens. The debug output for this is as follows:
SHL16: output is not short: 36500 in ltp.c: line 649
EXTRACT16: input is not short: 33074 in nb_celp.c: line 802

The encoder always corrupts its input buffer. This is not new.

What happens if you first saturate the signal to (e.g.) +/- 32000
instead of +/- 32767? BTW, can you send the signal you were usi...

Loud echo with answer before dial
...phone to talk, you get an over-amplified echo.
The sequence is like this:
exten => s,1,Answer
exten => s,2,Wait(2)
exten =>
s,3,Dial(SIP/201&SIP/202&SIP/203&SIP/204&SIP/205&SIP/206&SIP/207)
If you let it ring for a while before picking up, you get the horrible
overdriven echo. It's like putting a really large value for rxgain,
except that the volume goes down as the echo is trained out. Has anyone
else noticed this?

PHP script to administrate Icecast ?
Hi everyone
I wondered if any of you knew of a good PHP script to administrate Icecast,
as I'm not satisfied with the webadmin interface (templates do not control
everything and I'd rather not modify the sources). I've tried phpcast (found
on freshmeat) but I'd like to see others in action.
Another thing, anyone tried to change the mysql backend of icedir from SQL
to LDAP ?

PoE switch recommendations?
Hey, all. We're rolling out VoIP, and I'm wondering about PoE
recommendations, as we're going to have to replace our current network
equipment. My first inclination would be to just plunk down the cash and
do a Cisco system, but I'm relatively certain that would get shot down by
finance. Any recommendations for a couple-hundred-port solution with
VLANs, PoE, and QoS? Don't
