A file manipulation question
Hello R experts, The following problem outstrips my current programming knowledge. I have a dataframe with two fields that looks like the following: ID Contract 01 1 01 1 02 2 02 3 02 1 03 2 03 2 03 2 03 1 03 1 03 1 etc... I would like to end up with a dataframe with one row per ID where the value in the contract field would be the

Thank you! Upgrade from Novell 4.11 is complete
...ir ancient (RBase, QBasic) applications to work. 3. Improved security and eliminated home directories for users who have not worked here for years and years. 4. All printer drivers except for the pen plotter are now stored on the server. Printing via CUPS+Samba, and the print performance has outstripped the Novell print server by thousands of percents. 5. LDAP for authentication to not only Samba, but most UNIX servers, incoming and outgoing mail servers, and implemented a searchable white-pages while I was at it. 6. I am using Kixtart for login scripts. Drive letters are assigned based on...

[LLVMdev] Jump Theading/GVN bug - moving discussion to llvm-dev
Whatever we end up deciding, I think we do need to preserve the ability of a language frontend to generate complete garbage in the form of unreachable code. If we decide to move in the direction of disallowing the production of unreachable code, we need to write a canonicalization pass that runs first thing in the pipeline. A frontend should be able to produce unreachable code. This

Adding a Matrix Exponentiation Operator
Hi all I recently started to write a matrix exponentiation operator for R (by adding a new operator definition to names.c, and adding the following code to arrays.c). It is not finished yet, but I would like to solicit some comments, as there are a few areas of R's internals that I am still feeling my way around. Firstly: 1) Would there be interest in adding a new operator %^% that performs

[LLVMdev] Jump Theading/GVN bug - moving discussion to llvm-dev
Hello, I encountered a problem triggered by Jump-Threading optimization. This pass is creating an unreachable block with an instruction that is not well formed, which then causes the subsequent GVN pass to enter an infinite loop. I have submitted a bug report and proposed fix to llvm-commits. This bug opened a can of worms. I was asked to move the discussion to llvm-dev to reach for a wider

Wine integration in Ubuntu 11.04
There are several changes where this distribution develops away from classic desktops: - maximized windows use panel instead of title bar - global menu - overlay scrollbars I guess the last two will stay as inconsistencies for a long time (if not someone manages to get the windows menu into the panel), but I thought that maximised windows shouldn't behave different than they used to. However

Getting a Dom0 Kernel Version > 2.6.18 ?
As far as I work out the version of the Dom0 linux kernel has to be 2.6.18. This is causing me a lot of problem, because the driver support in 2.6.18 is slowly falling behind, and I finding that more modern hardware isn''t supported by the 2.6.18 drivers. Is it possible to use a more recent version of the kernel for Dom0, or am I stuck with 2.6.18? Is there another way I can use more

Determining ideal number of Mongrels for an app?
What''s a rule of thumb for guesstimating how many Mongrels to use in a cluster for an app? I have an app that gets about 5000 unique visitors per day. I figured I''d give it plenty of Mongrels -- twenty to be specific. After running out of memory and hitting the swap periodically, I scaled it back to five and it still seems to serve up visitors fine. So, is there some super-secret

hardware sizing for a zfs-based system?
Hi all, I''m putting together a OpenSolaris ZFS-based system and need help picking hardware. ZFS RaidZ recommendation
I have been searching this forum and just about every ZFS document i can find trying to find the answer to my questions. But i believe the answer i am looking for is not going to be documented and is probably best learned from experience. This is my first time playing around with open solaris and ZFS. I am in the midst of replacing my home based filed server. This server hosts all of my media
