update without find
Can I update an object without "finding" it?
I mean I think that
@outing = Outing.find(@params[:id])
if @outing.update_attributes(@params[:outing])
...
will select the Outing object from the db and then update it. But
suppose I want to update the object without selecting it (and knowing
that all the properties of my object are in "@params[:outing]"). Could I

(short notice) Cambridge LLVM Social tomorrow (Wednesday)
Hello various people,
A few LLVM folk are in town for the ARM researchers gathering towards the end of the week and we discussed briefly the idea of having a small pub outing for them this week.
It looks as if Wednesday is the best day, so let’s aim to go back to the Fort St George[1]. The weather is supposed to be warm again this week (though I’m sure Renato will strive to organise rain for

Next Move - Hosting
I posted this to asterisk biz but didn't get a reply.. I didn't want to
offend anyone being that this is kind of branching into hosting, and
maybe outside of the remit of this list.
Hi
Been lurking on the user list for a while but I have some what of an
immediate requirement and I'm wondering if you can suggest the best
solution (if mines a rubbish idea)
I have been testing Asterisk

Mail account brute force / harassment
Say for instance you have some one trying to constantly access an
account
Has any of you made something creative like this:
* configure that account to allow to login with any password
* link that account to something like /dev/zero that generates infinite
amount of messages
(maybe send an archive of virusses?)
* transferring TB's of data to this harassing client.
I think it would be

SNDS: root@ emails problem
HI guys, I have a question related to outing root@ emails from my server.
I have a centos server with sendmail and I have installed fail2ban and
iptables firewall recently.
The problem is: SNDS by hotmail (microsoft) has listed my server on RED
color claiming sending SPAM from my server, but I completely secure but I
am quite sure you have blocked sending emails from the root account 'on

[Bridge] bridge is not forwarding the packet
Hi Rahul,
If you're certain that your problem isn't as Stephen suggested, you
might want to have a look at this:

(From http://ebtables.sourceforge.net/brnf-faq.html

How do I let vlan-tagged traffic go through a vlan bridge port and the
other traffic through a non-vlan bridge port?
Suppose eth0 and eth0.15 are ports of br0.

UPS configuration issue?
This sub-thread is veering off-topic from the original question... but I'll
digress.

New version of lme4 and new mailing list R-SIG-mixed-models
Version 0.9975-11 of the lme4 package has been uploaded to CRAN. The
source package should be available on the mirrors in a day or two and
binary packages should follow soon after.
There are several changes in this release of the package. The most
important is the availability of a development version of lmer called,
for the time being, lmer2. At present lmer2 only fits linear mixed
models.

Asterisk Database
I'd like to be able to add additional fields to the the Asterisk
database. I'm using Mysql for most of my data lookup and manipulation,
and it seems to work pretty well. In keeping with what I know how to do,
it would be very handy to be able to insert say a "call forward number"
into a customer record. That way, I could automatically route calls to
extensions to a forwarded
