ifelse() woes ... can we agree on a ifelse2() ?
All, Martin: Thanks for this and all the other things you are doing to both drive R forward and engage more with the community about things like this. Apologies for missing this discussion the first time it came around and if anything here has already been brought up, but I wonder what exactly you mean when you want recycling behavior. Specifically, based on an unrelated discussion with Henrik

ifelse() woes ... can we agree on a ifelse2() ?
Just stating, in 'ifelse', 'test' is not recycled. As I said in "R-intro: length of 'ifelse' result" (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2016-September/073136.html), ifelse(condition, a, b) returns a vector of the length of 'condition', even if 'a' or 'b' is longer. On current 'ifelse' code in R: * The part ans[nas] <- NA

KVM vs ESXi
Morning Everyone, I'm busy doing a rebuild of my home server and am tossing between VMware and KVM for this build. I already have experience with ESX, we use it at work, but I'm debating trying out KVM for a while. The server itself is a budget build using a Supermicro X8SAX board w/ i7-950 & 12GB RAM, LSI 3081 SAS RAID (1068e based), rolled into a NorcoTek 16 Bay SAS case. Not fancy

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
In the discussion of having a freedom-friendly camcorder or other video device, we discussed the idea of using intra-only Theora video to make post-recording editing a much easier process, allowing things like frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video again, thus incurring loss. I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had speculated that

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
(I am sending this same message to theora-dev because I think it applies to development discussion as well as user discussion.) maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4? The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/ suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4? I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets. IWILL for one. Thanks, Tony Schreiner Boston College

OFF TOPIC: Core router upgrade for a voip colocation center
Hello, hope this isn't too far offtopic here but being a troller for a long time here I've realized there is a great knowledge base so I wanted to at least see if i could get some tips. I help run a small colocation company in California and I am in the middle of recommending a new 'core router' platform for our network. We offer mainly colo and dedicated servers, and several of

CentOS 7 and Areca ARC-1883I SAS controller: JBOD or not to JBOD?
Hi, Does anyone have experiences about ARC-1883I SAS controller with CentOS7? I am planning to have RAID1 setup and I am wondering if I should use the controller's RAID functionality which has 2GB cache or should I go with JBOD + Linux software RAID? The disks I am going to use are 6TB Seagate Enterprise ST6000NM0034 7200rpm SAS/12Gbit 128 MB If hardware RAID is preferred, the
