[XDC 2020] Virtual conference + Call for Proposals extended 2 weeks more
Hi, In the last meeting, X.Org Foundation board has decided that XDC 2020 will be a virtual conference, given the uncertain COVID-19 situation in Europe by September, including the possibility of a second wave, outbreaks and travel restrictions, either in Poland or in other countries. XDC 2020 organization team agrees on this decision and it volunteered to organize our first virtual XDC! We would like to announce as well that the new CFP deadline is Sunday July 19th 2020. Don't forget to submit your talk, dem...

strucchange-esque inference for glms ?
hello R-world, according to the strucchange package .pdf, "all procedures in this package are concerned with testing or assessing deviations from stability in the classical linear regression model." i'd like to test/assess deviations from stability in the Poisson model. is there a way to modify the strucchange package to suit my purposes, or should i use be using another

questions about "Cusum"
Dear friends: I have just read an article entitled " Monitoring of nosocomial invasive aspergillosis and early evidence of an outbreak using cumulative sum tests (CUSUM)", which is published in "Clinical Microbiology and Infection". We have great need to estimate the fluctuation of incidence of IFI in our hospital. But I don't know the details of the stastical method and

Samba Newbie
Hello, I have been looking for a Windows alternative for File & Print servers. Currently, we are using Win 2003. Patching overhead and virus outbreaks are becoming problematic with reducing head count. I have looked at the site, but there is no reference to 'better or the same as Win2003' only NT is referenced. I'm trying to put a business case together to convince management that this is a viable alternate strategy for the long term...

conflicting imports despite using importFrom in NAMESPACE
Dear all, It is my understanding that using 'importFrom' in the NAMESPACE of a package allows to avoid conflicts between different packages defining objects with identical names. However, I can still see conflicts while loading the package using 'library'. Here is a toy example, with a package 'foo' importing 'as.igraph' from the igraph package, and 'nj'

This was not a decision we took lightly. Here are the reasons we feel it is best to cancel EuroLLVM 2020. 1. ...s overall level of security. At risk of bringing out some *actual* Internet nutters, the question of minimum password security levels is directly analogous to that of vaccination. When a large population stops vaccinating, we start seeing previously-defeated diseases coming back, like the measles outbreaks in California and rural Australia: http://goo.gl/7caiui http://goo.gl/8lT8Pd Polio was almost completely eradicated, but it?s starting to come back in the middle east after the CIA used a fake vaccination campaign as a pretext to try to get into bin Laden?s Pakistan compound: http://...

Package surveillance (v0.9-8) on CRAN
Dear R Community, I would like to announce the package "surveillance", which provides methods for the surveillance of count data time series originating from the routine collection of public health data. The package addresses epidemiologists and statisticians working with routine surveillance, but it also offers an infrastructure for developers of new detection algorithms. Implemented

Installing/using "glars" package --- Error in library(glars) : 'glars' is not a valid installed package
Hi all I seem to have fallen at the first hurdle with my analysis, I have a set of binary disease outbreak data linked to a large number of landscape metrics variables and environmental variables which I would like to as predictor variables in a Least Angle Logistic Regression using the glars.fit.s function in the glars package (my data exhibits some multicollinearity hence the LARS) but when I

Doubt about CCA and PCA
Dear R community, I'm working with PCA and CCA methods, and I have a theoretical question. Why is it necesary to have more temporal values than variables when the CCA O PCA are going to be used? Could you advise to me some any paper about it? Thanks in advance, [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Sweave in PNG: driver online
Dear R addicts, Back in 2006, I posted the proposition for a tweak of the Sweave driver so that PNG figures can be produced instead of eps/pdf : https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2006-March/102122.html The amount of code modified is tiny (it was designed to induce minimal changes to the official code), but so far the driver seems to have been useful to a number of users. From 2006 on,

Linux Zombie Web Servers
Linked below are details about a new outbreak of hijacked linux web servers that dispense malware. http://blog.unmaskparasites.com/2009/09/11/dynamic-dns-and-botnet-of-zombie-web-servers/ I would highly recommend that you use nmap to scan all your Linux webservers that are connected to the Internet to see if they are listening on port 8080. The best I can tell, there are no articles concerning

sending a delete request does actually delete the file and does not move it into the recycle bin. This is also an async process. There is no blocking to wait for the operation to complete or return. It is simply an event. Using this method, under windows, to scan for a virus will not work. Since this mechanism is event driver, you can not block the FSD request to wait for the scan to complete. ...ime.( Most likely your users home folders of course). With this setup the higher ups will like it somewhat better than running the 'ol midnight cron job of clamscan'.Also might mention,in the last 3 years since going to Clamav on all of our windersz boxes at school we have not had any "outbreaks" of viruses. I think this addition will be very nice as a transparent scanning piece, for all files coming and going on the file server. Other than having to compile it against whatever version of Samba you are running it was very easy, lightweight to setup.Couldn't find very many rpm's...

list proposal
With the increased traffic as of late, I'm wondering if it is time to split the list again. Specifically I am wondering if it should be split along the various VoIP protocols and zap hardware, then leave a general list that does configuration other than VoIP related? The hope is that those asking SIP or H323 questions could get help from the various supporters while the main list can deal
