Creating my own YUM repository
I have already 6 Centos machines here and it is getting strange
having to pull down updates to each system.
Seems like I should set up one system to pull updates and then all
other systems to point to it.
How?
Plus then I would want to add to this repository.
Say that a number of my systems use tomcat which is only available
via rpm. I would like to be able to add it to my repository, and

dag repo and perl dependencies naming
Hi
I'm trying to install amavisd-new from dag repo on centos3.
In the spec file perl dependencies use parenthesis: perl(Digest::MD5)
it also uses '-': perl-MailTools
The problem is that only the second notation is available: perl-MD5
I know this is an old problem. Is this only centos related?
Is there a workaround?
Do I have to modify the spec file? I'd like to use yum...

problem in getting data through cacti from windows xp
hey friends,
I am using cacti cacti-0.8.6-1.2 on Centos 4.0. I want to monitor my
network through cacti, I have few windows and linux clients in my network.
I have created a device or a host for Linux. I am able to get most of the
information except Available Disk Space "Unix Available Disk Space". The
client is Fedora Core 3 and the system on which cacti is running is Centos
4.0.

Kernel 2.4 and Centos4
Hi,
Has anyone used a 2.4 series kernel on RHEL4/Centos4?
There's a patch (openmosix) which I would really like to make use of
[seeing as I just got 10 diskless computers...] which is not ready
(yet) for the 2.6 kernel series...
Can I just drop in a 2.4.26 series kernel and continue to have a working
system? Or is RHEL now totally dependent on 2.6 kernel features?
Cheers,
MaZe.

Upgrade 4.1 --> 4.2 Question
Hi,
I am in the proces of upgrading my CentOS 4.1 servers to 4.2. I've burnt
CentOS 4.2 CD's from the ISO images (these images work because I already
installed a new server with it), but I am unable to upgrade the existing
servers to 4.2 using the CD's....
Does anybody have a clue, why this is not working... or is the online
update option the only one...

more: Have install diskette for 3.0, but can't find the .img for 4.0
I have found something called: diskboot.img
at: http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/centos/4/os/i386/images/
But it is 6Mb large (6411Kb) instead of 1411Kb
And the rawreadwrirewin program gets an error on it when run on NT. On
Win2000, it makes a diskette that fails to boot..
So really, HELP!!!!
I 'just' discovered that my old bootable diskette is for Centos 3.0, and my
other CDs are

YUM error "can't create transaction lock"
A short while ago I reported a network interruption while
performing a YUM update on a server. A check of the logs as
recommended by a list member indicated that the update process had
succeeded. However, I am now encountering the following problem on
that same server and my nastily suspicious mind is trying to tell
me that the previous event and this situation are somehow related.

Security: should I be concerned?
Two things have been weighing on my mind regarding security issues.
The first is that when I downloaded the CentOS 4.1 ISO images, I could
not get the sums to match even using different downloads from different
mirrors. I decided that that I was doing something wrong and decided to
trust the images. So far no regrets. But I am concerned that I get it
right the next time. I thought I had read

Everything works fine except that when traffic is forwarded from the BigIP
to the linux box on the VLAN where the web server is running the linux box
returns the traffic on the wrong VLAN, It returns traffic on the lowest
ordered VLAN.

Should I and can I upgrade GTK+/PyGTK?
I'm trying out different music players. One that looks promising is

What's the Linux equivelant of an exe file?
This is one of those questions that seems to be soo obvious to people
that no one feels the need to have an explanation anywhere. I've been
looking around the net for ages, and I can't figure out what, on Linux,
is actually a program.
I've downloaded OpenOffice 1.9 Beta, and would like to run it. I go to
the /opt/openoffice.org1.9.122/program/ directory and... then what? What
