Seamless web video within reach
I'm interested in feedback on my latest blog post, "Seamless web video
within reach":
http://ossguy.com/?p=424
It primarily describes how to get Theora working in Safari and
Internet Explorer and how to bring it all together with tools like
Mv_Embed.
In addition, I'd like to find people that are interested in developing
and testing the solutions I outlined (especially Mac and Windows
users)...

QTheoraFrontend
Denver Gingerich has put together a quick frontend for ffmpeg2theora.
It's written in Qt, so will run on OS X, Windows, and X11. You can
find it here:
http://github.com/ossguy/qtheorafrontend
It doesn't do any sort of error checking right now, and currently
assumes the video file is in the current directory and called
"test.flv". It will convert the file, showing ffmpeg2theora's status
in the UI. Work is ongoing to polish it up & add more features....

roll call for OCV?
If you're going to be at OVC, let everyone know. Sounds like there's
a big crowd that's going to be there.

Re: wine don't handle hard coded resolutions & refresh rates
...ve this, I added a feature to Wine that allows you to force a particular refresh rate even if the application specifies a refresh rate of its own. This would probably be useful for your situation. Full details for how to use the feature are available in the third paragraph of my blog post (http://ossguy.com/?p=29). Essentially it requires you to upgrade to Wine 0.9.58 and add a registry entry specifying the refresh rate you want to use. The refresh rate you specify should be the refresh rate as listed by xrandr, not the real refresh rate.
Let me know if you have any questions about that. I hop...

Planning of next challenges for Firefox
Fellow open video enthusiasts,
Chris Blizzard just suggested that with all the Xiph developers
attending the OpenVideoConference, we should all get together and
discuss the next things to attack for Ogg Theora/Vorbis in Firefox. I
think that's a great idea.
Assuming that everyone stays for the hackfest on Sunday, we picked
10am on Sunday for a thorough discussion and planning session (1-2

Theora and WeBM support in Firefox and Opera
I did some tests:
### Theora support in Firefox 3.7a (missnamed as "Minefield"):
Same as since 3.5 (plays, no controls if Javascript off, no thorough
retest of buffering issues).

### WeBM support in Firefox 3.7a
Seems to play (controls bug of course also there) and

recommendations for web video bit rates
Hey, everyone. I'm sure this thread will generate some email!
Some people are working on a super-easy to use converter for people to
be able to convert videos to Theora for the upcoming Get Video on
Wikipedia push:
http://videoonwikipedia.org/
(Note that this isn't being pushed yet, and is pre-launch quality!)
For the converter one thing we'd like to be able to provide is a set
