tcpdump output --zebra ospfd
Dear Sir, I have point-point ethernet connections to my linux boxes on which I am running Zebra OSPFD. I am unable to understand the output of the tcpdump. Please clarify the terms in the output. The output of the command tcpdump on BOX 1 is as follows: I have also shown a part of my network below. 14:0831.849801 eth0 M 192.168.2.2 > 224.0.0.5: OSPF v2-hello 48: rtrid 192.168.4.2 backbone dr...

RE: ntpd
Hi Nitin, First of all, you can verify that ntpd is responding on ingress with netcat : nc -u ingress 123 (udp connection on port 123) also try a netstat -an on ingress to be sure that the port 123 is in listen state... I recently install ntpdate, and it has worked as a client and a local ntp server immediatly. Good Luck, Yannick / Annecy in France -----Message d''origine----- De :

Is Load Balanced VPN possible?
All, With the dual-ISP support in the latest versions of Shorewall, is it also possible to setup dual-VPN with something like OpenVPN? If so, what are the high levels steps that would need to be completed? Aaron

Bug#441249: Bug#441249: xen-hypervisor-3.0.3-1-i386-pae: "Problems using XEN when Quagga is running"
...utdown commands, manually bringing up interfaces, etc. I haven't found a reliable way to reproduce the crash yet. I need to do more testing before I can say for sure. What do you think of this? > Can you try to insulate it within quagga? Does this happen if you just run > zebra but not ospfd? If only zebra is running - still a jammed VIF interface. If only ospfd is running, it actually fixes the problem. (too bad ospfd is useless without the zebra daemon) By the way, if you want I could arrange you an SSH access to the xen1 host. Linux choices ?
...one for the ''core'' routing. The routers will be using RIP or OSPF to make sure that routing stays correct and manageable. I will be using the following services: - 2.4 kernel (2.6 ?? QOS) (Why should I use 2.6 ?) - netfilter (firewalling) - shorewall (admin :) ) - zebra/ospfd (routing) - snmp (netflow, nic counters) - sshd - remote syslog - some kind of vpn (cipe for wireless ?) That''s my list of things I will be using. I am thinking about using the debian sarge tree, because I really like debian in the way it works (updating etc...). Maybe other distr...

Routing and Redundancy Delima
...(external) LAN. LAN B is my wireless LAN. LAN A does iBGP and OSPF routing. Each wireless router does the following: 2 Bridged Ethernet + STP connections to LAN A 2 Bridged Ethernet + STP connections to LAN B 2 VLANs on LAN A 5 VLANs on LAN B UCARP on each wireless VLAN (5). Quagga - zebra, bgpd, ospfd (on LAN A) UCARP provides a virtual IP address for the gateway for each VLAN on the wireless side. The goal is to provide complete, hot-failover redundancy to wireless-r2 in the event wireless-r1 goes down (maintenance, failure, etc). Ideally, the system should not loose a single packet in the eve...

Bug#441249: xen-hypervisor-3.0.3-1-i386-pae: "Problems using XEN when Quagga is running"
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.0.3-1-i386-pae Version: 3.0.3-0-2 Severity: normal If quagga is running, and I start & stop a domain, the VIF interface doesn't go down properly (in addition to other problems). Here's what I do: 1. Boot the computer. By default, quagga is running (zebra + ospfd). 2. xm create test7.cfg, wait until the domU starts. 3. xm shutdown test7, wait until the domU stops. (I also tried halt from within domU) 4. xm list - gives me "Device 0 not connected" error after shutdown is finished 5. "ifconfig vifX.0" still shows the interface. 6. xm crea...

FreeBSD 4.9 losing mbufs!!!
Hello List, I know 4.9 is ancient history, but unfortunately we have several thousand sites installed. We are in the process of moving to 6.1 when it is released. Right now I have an immediate problem where we are going to install two system at a HQ site. Each of the 2 systems will have two gre/vpn/ospf tunnels to a 100 remote sites in the field. The broadband will be a T3 with failover to

Coexistence of Dynamic and Static routing
...instability in systems. 1) Is it feasible to use both dynamic and static routing systems in a Linux router? That is, if I am using the facilities in IProute2 and Iptables to do fair queing and bandwidth control, for selected subnets, will that work ok with one of the router daemons like ripd or ospfd? Will their be a problem with routing tables being confused between the two? I guess what I am really asking is what is the relationship between Ingress / Egress ques, Pre-routing / Post-routing tables and the daemons in the data flow within the box. 2) Given the above, are there any issues as...

[Fwd: [quagga-users 2122] Linux advanced routing & quagga]
...es, other than ''main''; all used for specific purposes.) This linux router is directly connected to a CISCO router, doing ospf. In order to use OSPF routes on the linux router, we''ve setup quagga (v0.96). Both devices are populating routes to each others, so the quagga/ospfd setup is ok. However, we met 2 problems: 1) A default route is advertised by the CISCO router to our linux router. The guys controlling the CISCO router told us they couldn''t do anything for this; therefore I wanted to know if there was a way to configure quagga to ignore OSPF default ro...

Xen and timekeeping
...ent_wallclock=1 to sysctl.conf thus the time in all domU's was also changed. But THEY DIDN'T "KNOW" THAT! The 'date' output in domU shows time unchanged, as before, incorrect by 5 hours. But any current_time-dependent operations don't behave correctly. Quagga's OSPFd daemon doesn't add routes. 'service dhcpd stop' hangs forever while correctly stopping the daemon. AFAIK, it hangs on 'killproc' [root at gbuh-ufa init.d]# grep killproc dhcpd -A 2 -B 2 echo -n $"Shutting down $prog: " killproc $prog RETVAL=$? [ $RE...

equalize / ecmp not working as expected in 2.6 vs 2.4
Hi, With kernel 2.4 I was able to use equalize to send our outgoing packets to two different routers (our isp supports this setup), like this: ip route add default src ip.a.dd.rr equalize nexthop via <router1> weight 1 nexthop via <router2> weight 1 The two routes were used equally on a per packet basis, not per flow or per cached route, but per packet, each line has 800k upload

Why Are You Using FreeBSD?
Hi Everyone, This is off-topic, so please feel free to disregard it, but I'm sending it to this list in the hope that it will reach a largish number of users. I am currently looking at updating some of our advocacy material (which advertises exciting new features like SMP support), and before I do I'd like to get a better feel for why the rest of you are using FreeBSD. If you had to
