[LLVMdev] Porting LLVM backend is no fun yet
Hi Greg, I understand your frustration. I've been on this mailing list for a little over a year hoping that by osmosis I could get a a better handle on writing a back end for LLVM. Although I feel more comfortable with the nomenclature, I still do not have a clue as to how to begin (actually I do, but it sounds more dramatic saying it this way). I've read the documentation, but TableGen seems to just be...

How should I educate myself in order to code for WineHQ?
I consider myself not having any real programming experience. I've went through 5 weeks long basic courses for each of these scripting languages. So no real programming experience to fall back on and I basically can't do anything useful with any of these languages anyways. Matlab PHP+MySQL bash But I want to learn just enough to be useful for the Wine project. And thus enable me to see

RAID-10 vs Nested (RAID-0 on 2x RAID-1s)
...etings- I'm about to embark on a new installation of Centos 6 x64 on 4x SATA HDDs. The plan is to use RAID-10 as a nice combo between data security (RAID1) and speed (RAID0). However, I'm finding either a lack of raw information on the topic, or I'm having a mental issue preventing the osmosis of the implementation into my brain. Option #1: My understanding of RAID10 using 4 drives (now known as a,b,c,d) is: a+b - RAID1 (md0) c+d - RAID1 (md1) md0+md1 - RAID0 (md3) This is of course simplified as /boot needs to be on RAID1 (last I checked Grub couldn't boot from anything other th...

[LLVMdev] Porting LLVM backend is no fun yet
As we've already seen, David Chisnall prefers hacking LLVM over GCC (see http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1215438): "In contrast, every time I look at the GCC code, it takes two people to prevent me from clawing my eyeballs out." I'm sorry to report that so-far I have had the opposite experience. Some years ago, I ported binutils (via CGEN) and GCC to an

Wine with writeitnow
Hello, Currently I'm moving over to linux. I got fedora core 7, and I've been running it on a virtual machine. There is one piece of software I can't live without. It's called writeitnow: http://www.ravensheadservices.com/ Wine is installed on my box. When I run the application I get the following error message: "The Java(TM) VM could not be started. How much Ruby?
I bought the pickaxe about 1 1/2 months ago, and I have been reading through it and learning Ruby in my spare time. I''m about 200 pages into it, and I''m starting to think I don''t need to know all of the in''s and out''s of Ruby to get a good hang on Rails. How much Ruby do I really need to be proficient in Rails? Ruby is a great language, I love it, but
