Help needed: valid users
...as expected (posted about it few weeks ago, no answers though) I would be very thankful for any help. BTW, anyone any idea how to attract attention to a post on this list? Virtual beer as attachment? ;-) My success rate is by now close to nothing. Thanks for your time. Regards, Chris -- Chris Osicki osk at osk.ch Dipl. Informatik-Ing. HTL

Question: backslash in file name
Hi I have a applikation (Oracle DB) which writes files with a backslash in names, i.e: Log\GEN_INPUT_BASED_2899.csv not a problem for Unix but Samba present it to Windows users as: L2CYOP~L.CSV Is there any way _in Samba_ to strip this 'Log\' and give back to user the GEN_INPUT_BASED_2899.csv part. Tha appliance (EMC Celerra) I've just migrated data from, was magicaly doing this.

Q: how to collect user/group-names
Hi Sorry if it's not 100% appropriate for this list, cannot think of better place to find people with lots of know-how from Unix and Windows. I'm currently working on replacing EMC's Celerra file servers by Linux/Samba. The SID to UID/GID mapping table on Celerra is very large, ~50'000 entries and I don't want to pollute my LDAP server with all this (using winbind with LDAP

Problem: LDAP as idmap backend
Hi I've just upgraded Samba on Solaris 10 from the bundled version (3.0.33) to 3.4.0 and winbind don't want to cooperate with LDAP as idmap backend anymore. The smb.conf I use is: [global] workgroup = CORPROOT netbios name = usonfs security = domain log level = 10 preferred master = no bind interfaces only = yes interfaces = usonfs password server =

Q: Winbind, LDAP
Hi I'm using winbind with LDAP backend for UID/GID<->SID mapping. The only problem I have so far is, it logs to syslog tons of messages that it cannot find some uid-sid mappings: mapping not found for uidNumber: 3300 I was thinking to create mapping for such uids/gids using a NULL SID but this can be done just for one uid, as the DN in LDAP is composed of sambaSID and ou. Thus

Please help with Samba on Solaris10
Hi I'm having lots of problems getting Samba to work on Solaris. First I tried the version which comes with Solaris10: 3.0.30. It almost did work, but a user could not _rename_ files. Next try was with 3.4.0. Unfortunately winbindd tried to _modify_ idmap entries in my LDAP server to make them be from the UID range defined in smb.conf. WHY? What's the idea behind it? Winbindd also

Q: Client cannot authenticate
Hi A new setup Windows client fails to authenticate to my Samba server (3.0.24-SerNet-RedHat). What I see in log at level 10 is: Got user=[SA-MC-SMSNS@corproot.net] domain=[] workstation=[MSISMSSRV01P] len1=24 len2=122 The empty domain seams to be origin of the problem, for other systems working OK this field is not empty. The Windows client is: NativeOS=[Windows Server 2003 R2 3790 Service
